The actors says that his last Transformers movie is also his best.
Actor Shia LaBeouf, star of Michael Bay’s Transformers movies, says that Dark of the Moon will be his last foray into the world of the Autobots and Decepticons. He’s confident that there will be more Transformers movies in the future, but he says that he won’t be in them.
Speaking to MTV, LaBeouf said that he didn’t think that Bay would make another Transfomers movie either, but that it was still a “hot property.” He added that it would be weird to see someone else playing a part he thought as his, but that he would be right there in the movie theater with everyone else. “You have an onus in it. I’ll enjoy it. I’ll go opening night, I’ll be there. But there is a disconnect. It’s mine, dude.”
As befits a swan song, he seemed very excited about Dark of the Moon. He said that it took what was good about the first movie and used that, while fixing what was bad in the second. He said that Dark of the Moon was the most “solid” screenplay the franchise had had, and said that actors like John Malkovich and Ken Jeong added extra strength to the cast. He also said that the movie was more focused, which – ironically – was achieved in part by Bay pulling the cameras back for the 3D effects.
The Transformers movies have been criticized by fans for focusing too much on the human characters, especially on LaBeouf’s character of Sam Witwicky, so the news that he won’t be returning to the franchise will please more than a few people. Probably even more pleasing to fans however, is the idea that Bay might not make another one, because however fierce the criticism of LaBeouf might have been, the criticism for Bay was significantly worse.
