Slow Down For the Max Payne 3 Bulletime Trailer

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

The Max Payne 3 Bullet Time trailer is pure, slo-mo awesome.

You can take Max Payne out of New York, you can take away his fantastic wardrobe, you can take away Mona Sax and Chief Bravura and all the rest, but the one thing you cannot take away is “bullet time.” It’s a common videogame mechanic these days but for those not in the know, bullet time essentially throws Max and the world around him into slow-motion, allowing him to dodge bullets with ease while shooting the crap out of everything in sight.

“Max is usually outnumbered and heavily outgunned,” as the new “Design and Technology” video explains, but he’s also got anger issues, substance abuse problems and a few psychological hangups that somehow combine into ultra-heightened reflexes that have the effect of making everyone around him appear to be almost standing still. And that allows Max to put bullets into faces at a rate that normal men can only dream of.

Bullet time in Max Payne 3 has been enhanced to give players greater control over the action and, in conjunction with improved technology, an even more “cinematic” feel than that of previous Max Payne games. Players will be able to slow down end-of-battle “kill cams” to watch their final victim die at a leisurely bloody pace, and bullet time will automatically kick in at specific points in the game to ensure maximum murderin’ mayhem.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Max Payne 3 looks hot. And it’s only a month away! For the console crowd, at least, which will get it on May 15, while Team PC must wait until May 29.
