Square-Enix Continues to Tease Gamers With Final Fantasy VII Remake

Square-Enix is remaining nice and vague on the subject of a next-gen Final Fantasy VII remake , saying that it won’t be happening ‘for the time being’.

As the game that introduced the franchise to a much wider audience.Final Fantasy VII is a milestone in the Final Fantasy series. It’s one of the best loved games of the original PlayStation, but there’s no denying that the game is showing its age, and the above tech demo – which recreates the opening scene of the game – has prompted years of speculation and rumor that a remake is in the works, rumors that persist, despite the repeated rebuffs from Square-Enix.

This time, it’s Final Fantasy VII Character Designer, and now Game Director, Tetsuya Nomura who is neither confirming nor denying anything. “Fans are looking forward to an oft rumored remake of FFVII,” Nomura said. “But I don’t believe this will happen for the time being.”

Let’s be clear on that, that’s not a no, that’s a ‘not yet’. Nomura did suggest that the game’s protagonist, the pointy-haired amnesiac Cloud Strife, might appear as a guest star in other games, but as he’s already appeared as a guest star in a number of other games that’s not really going to be much comfort.

If you’re desperate to play FFVII on your PS3, you can get it on PSN, or play your old PS1 copy, but if you’re waiting for a remake, the official word from Squeenix is pretty much ‘keep waiting’.
