Star Wars Battlefront will finally roll out its beta in October with a Walker Assault mission and playable Jedi characters.
Star Wars Battlefront is one of the most hotly anticipated games of the year, considering how long we’ve been waiting and how solid the early previews have been. But if that Nov. 17 release date feels like it’s in a galaxy far, far away, there’s still a chance to try the beta. Electronic Arts and DICE recently revealed their October beta that will debut across all platforms, featuring a 40-player Hoth Assault mission and the newly-announced Drop Zone mode.
The Star Wars Battlefront beta’s main showcase will be the Walker Assault mode, where Rebels need to take down the massive Imperial AT-AT before it takes over the base. Rebels will have to activate and defend Uplink stations to call in Y-Wing Bombers, weakening the Walker to make it vulnerable to blaster fire. On top of that, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker will be playable heroes for their respective teams, raising the stakes as the match progresses.
This beta also presents Survival mode, where two Rebels players work together to fight back progressively challenging Stormtrooper waves – a pretty standard multiplayer mode, but still fun. But the real surprise is the reveal of yet another gameplay mode: Drop Zone, which will debut in the beta. EA will reveal Drop Zone’s details in the coming weeks, but I suspect it will involve reaching supply drops before you enemies can.
More information on the beta – and how to sign up for it – should be revealed very soon. At the very least, it’s a great chance to see for ourselves if Star Wars Battlefront can live up to years of expectation and hype. Here’s hoping the Force is strong with it.
