Street Fighter Fine Art Up For Sale

All the pieces from the Street Fighter-themed art exhibition Jab Strong Fierce in Alhambra, California are now up for sale, and there’s everything from abstract portraits of Blanka to racy renditions of Chun-Li.

Jab Strong Fierce, a Street Fighter tribute art exhibition at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California, opened last Friday. Fortunately for those who don’t live in the vicinity, Gallery Nucleus has done us a service by posting all of the pieces in the show online. Of course, if you want to take your videogame art connoisseurship to the next level, all the pieces are on sale as well.

This being art and not the poster bin at your local Wal-Mart, this stuff doesn’t come cheap, ranging from as low as $28 to as high as $2,700. Unsurprisingly, most of the pieces that feature Chun-Li in some revealing pose (like this humorously naughty picture by Bill Presing) have sold out. Art appreciation? Yeah right. More like ass appreciation.

Nevertheless, even if you don’t plan on buying anything from the show, do give the pictures a glance. There are plenty of cute in-jokes and Street Fighter visual references, but it’s still art in every sense of the word. I’m partial to this tough girl take on Sakura by Mari Inukai, this spare but bold abstraction of Blanka, and this portrait of Zangief done by none other than Derek Yu, the indie game designer behind Aquaria and Spelunky.

One bright spot if the prices still makes your wallet bleed: you can pay in installments or, even better, you can vote to have the piece turned into a print. Pieces that get enough requests may get mass produced into comparatively cheap prints that everyone can buy and reasonably afford.

Of course if you’re in the area, you should go check out the show for yourself. It’ll run until May 11.
