Super Meat Boy Respawns On PS4 And Vita This Year

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Super Meat Boy will arrive on the PlayStation 4 and Vita this fall, and will be completely free for PlayStation Plus members.

It may be almost five years old, but Super Meat Boy is still a wonderful game. Starring a cube of meat who rushes into danger to save his girlfriend from the evil Dr. Fetus, this platformer was equal parts charming, challenging, and super-gross, making Team Meat a prominent name in indie gaming. Sadly, bringing Super Meat Boy to other platforms proved challenging for a variety of contractual and technical reasons. But PlayStation fans will soon learn what the fuss was all about – Super Meat Boy will launch on PlayStation 4 and Vita platforms this year, and will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

“Crazy right?!” Team Meat’s Tommy Refenes wrote in a blog post. “We actually never ever EVER thought this day would come and it makes us both so happy that it’s finally here! We know this has been a long time coming but better late than never. Expect to be playing Super Meat Boy on your PlayStation 4’s and PlayStation Vitas later this year.”

Super Meat Boy originally launched on Xbox Live Arcade in 2010, quickly followed by a PC version on Steam. But the game never transitioned to PlayStation 3, thanks to an initial lack of interest from Sony and later contractual obligations with Microsoft. That issue was resolved earlier this year, which means Sony customers can finally learn Super Meat Boy‘s joy and pain this fall.

It’s great news that Super Meat Boy will reach a new platform – especially one where most customers are already PlayStation Plus subscribers. But the real standout here is the Vita version, which marks the first time Super Meat Boy can be played on a handheld system. That should provide amble reason to experience another several hundred deaths as we wait for the still-in-development sequel.
