Earlier this month, Telltale’s Tales of Monkey Island launched, and it was well-received. How well-received, you ask? According to Telltale CEO Dan Connors, it was the company’s best-performing launch yet.
There was a lot riding on the first Monkey Island sequel in almost a decade, Tales‘ writer Mark Darin told The Escapist: “We knew that after a decade, we had not only a ton of fans to appease, but a whole new audience to introduce Monkey Island to.”
Apparently, they did a good job of it, too. Not only was the game a critical hit (Spoilers!) but it seems to have done well amongst consumers at large as well. “It was a great launch for us,” Telltale CEO Dan Connors told Videogamer. “We’re really happy with it. I think it even exceeded our expectations.”
“Unfortunately I can’t get into the specific numbers,” he said. “But I would definitely say it’s our strongest performing franchise to date. We’re pretty excited. It was number one on Steam for a few days. It did really well. It’s been our best performing title from our side as well.”
Well, that’s good. Introducing a new generation of gamers to the timeless Guybrush Threepwood and friends can only be a good thing. One wonders how future installments in the episodic Tales franchise will fare – will word of mouth drive them even higher?
