Telltale’s Batman Adventure Will Have… Multiplayer?

Telltale is looking to bring multiplayer into the equation for its games, starting with Batman.

Adventure games are usually, by their very nature, a singleplayer affair. While there is some strategy and lateral thinking involved, they are akin to a kind of playable “choose-your-own-adventure” book. Telltale, who revitalized the genre by game-ifying popular IPs like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, is now looking to innovate the genre by bringing multiplayer into the mix, starting with Batman.

The studio is implementing a new feature called “Crowd Play” that will allow family, friends and even large audiences to join in to help make those decisions with you.

“We wanted a better way to integrate that audience,” Job Stauffer, head of creative communications at Telltale, told Shacknews in relation to the growing group of players who crowd around a single screen and and make suggestions on what the player should do. “Now, from two to 2,000-plus people can help the player make decisions.”

“We are now turning all of Telltale’s games into a live interactive multiplayer experience,” he added.

Starting with Batman on August 2, players will be able to start each playthrough of a Telltale game with the Crowd Play feature. Essentially, using the feature generates a URL which audience members can navigate to on their phones, in a somewhat similar manner to the Jackbox games.

Crowd players will be able to choose one of the four dialogue options, which will then be tallied live in the form of percentages on the player’s screen, letting the player know immediately what everyone thinks should be done.

Seems like this is going to be a great feature for streamers and parties!
