The New Mutants Gets Yet Another Trailer & Panel at Comic-Con@Home

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

One day we will all see The New Mutants, but it’s really unclear when that day will be. The film has been delayed so many times that it is a wonder they still have new footage to make new trailers for it. Yet here we are with another trailer landing for the X-Men spin-off, but this one is teasing a Comic-Con@Home panel instead of a release date. Just what the cast and crew will reveal that we don’t already know about the film is unclear.

While Disney has set a release date for The New Mutants of Aug. 28, that seems like it will easily be changed given the current state of COVID-19 in the U.S. and the fact that far bigger movies will probably be shoving it out of that window if anything is even releasing at all. Of note is the fact that the trailer doesn’t mention the release date at all but instead the panel. Could we be in for a “surprise” release on a streaming service like Hulu or Disney+? Maybe one of those “and you can watch it right now” moments?

That’s pretty unlikely considering Disney seems committed to a theatrical release for the film, which is the last holdover from the Disney/Fox merger that took place last year. Early reports were that Disney execs were not that excited about the horror superhero flick, but the film has also just been incredibly unlucky in getting released. If it is delayed again, it will be for the fifth time, and it was originally supposed to land on April 13, 2018.

In attendance at the Comic-Con@Home panel, which is San Diego Comic-Con’s shot at doing a virtual event, will be director Josh Boone and cast members Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga. Boone says that the movie waiting to be released is his original cut, and if nothing else, it will be incredibly interesting to hear him discuss what this entire experience has been like.
