The Week in Review – Imperial Commutes and Superhero Movies

On this week’s edition, the Green Lantern’s 2011 wardrobe is revealed, and Pokémon Black & White gets some pointless voice chat.

X-Men: First Class Becomes Just a Little More Delicious

Superheroes are defined by their enemies: Batman has the Joker, Superman has Lex Luthor, and the X-Men have Kevin Bacon – sort of. Bacon has joined the cast of X-Men: First Class as a currently undisclosed villain. The rumors suggest that he might be playing Nathanial Essex, better know as Mister Sinister. If this is true, it will be the first time Sinister has appeared in a live action version of the X-Men. (link)

Green Lantern Movie Costume More “Tron” Than Expected

We got out first look at the costume for the titular hero in the upcoming Green Lantern movie this week, courtesy of the latest copy of Entertainment Weekly. The costume is mostly CGI and has thin glowing lines running across it. It’s probably not what most people were expecting, but the costumes weren’t 100% true to the comics in the first X-Men movie either and that was one of the best superhero movies around. (link)

You’re Part of the Rebel Alliance, and You Haven’t Paid Your Fare!

As opening scenes in movies go, the storming of Princess Leia’s ship by Imperial forces at the beginning of Star Wars is one of the greats, and it would seem that it’s just as entertaining when transposed to the NYC subway. Members of the street performance team Improv Anywhere brightened up the day of hundreds of commuters as they recreated the scene while wearing borrowed costumes. Hit the link for the video. (link)

“Can You See Me?” “Of Course I Can, You’re Right There!”

Pokemón Black & White will let you chat with your trainer friends via live video chat over Wi-Fi. Pretty cool right? Well it gets better! You and three friends can chat simultaneously via the DS local wireless connection too, although that does kind of require you to be in fairly close proximity. Like, say, close enough to be able to see the people you’re talking too. Hmm, well, it’s the thought that counts, right? (link)

HULK ISSUE STATEMENT!

image

Over the weekend it was confirmed that Edward Norton would not be playing the Hulk in the Avengers movie, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige issued a statement which suggested that Norton wouldn’t have been able to work as part of an ensemble cast. This didn’t go down well with Norton’s agent, who called the statement “unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory.” The fact remains, however, that we are down one Hulk, and we’re going to have to wait to see who will fill those ragged purple pants.
