The Witcher 3 Gets Five-Minute Gameplay Trailer

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

The world of The Witcher 3 is a dark one, with even darker people in it.

We’re getting closer and closer to The Witcher 3‘s May 19 release date, and (barring any further delays, of course), we should finally get to experience the finale of Geralt’s story soon. But it’s been quite some time since The Witcher 2 and i’m sure fans, new and old alike, could use a bit of a refresher. For that purpose, CD Projekt Red has given us this awesome five-minute gameplay trailer, explaining Geralt’s world, and his role within it.

“In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt you become Geralt of Rivia, a monster slayer for hire. You take on the greatest contract of your life — tracking down the Child of Prophecy, a living weapon that can alter the shape of the world. Your journey will take you across the Northern Realms, a vast continent filled with merchant cities, mysterious islands, dangerous mountain passes, and forgotten caverns to explore. Hundreds of armour and weapon upgrades await you, with lethal sword and magic skills at your disposal.”

The trailer is 100% gameplay footage, with no pre-rendered cutscenes, and highlights some of the things you’ll be able to do in the game. It shows Geralt sailing, riding, doing “diplomacy” and of course, slicing monsters in half. CD Projekt Red says it has put a lot of effort into making the game feel “seamless”, with little touches such as monster behavior changing during night time to make it feel like you are in a living breathing world, rather than a series of scripted events.

The footage looks like it is taken from the Xbox One version of the game, and it’s quite impressive. I can’t wait to see how much more impressive it’ll be on a beefy gaming PC!
