Top LIVE Arcade Purchases and Games Played

Major Nelson reveals the most online played 360 games and the most purcased LIVE Arcade titles.

Major Nelson has posted a series of lists detailing the online activity on XBox LIVE for 2006.

The top five 360 games that were played online by the largest amount of unique gamertags, in order from most unique users to least, were Gears of War, Hexic HD, Call of Duty 2, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. In the case of single player games like Hexic and Oblivion, data was taken from online users who were playing these games while staying connected to LIVE. Of the original XBox games, the list is unsurprisingly topped by Halo 2, followed by Battlefield 2, Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Madden NFL 2006, and Counter-Strike.

UNO (offered as a code with the LIVE Vision Camera), Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting, Geometry Wars Evolved, Marble Blast Ultra, and Pac-Man led the XBox LIVE Arcade marketplace in total purchases. Bankshot Billiards 2, which was included as a free coupon code in XBox LIVE kits, placed 11th. Texas Hold ‘Em, which had the 15th most purchases, was freely available on its first launch day. Coupon codes and any free releases of games were not counted as purchases in compiling the list.
