Paradox Interactive and Hardsuit Labs have announced that the long-awaited Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is no longer scheduled to release in 2020. Instead, the game will launch next year, though the companies have not yet revealed a new launch window.

The announcement came via a social media post today, authored by Hardsuit Labs CEO Andy Kipling and Paradox Product Manager Jakob Munthe. The delay has been attributed to “the quality bar and ambitions” that the teams have for the project.

According to the post, the teams have taken further measures than just a delay, with “organizational changes” cited. While details of those changes are not available at present, they are promised to arrive in the coming months, alongside the revised launch window.

Today’s news marks the second significant delay for Bloodlines 2. Revealed early last year, the game was originally planned to launch in March 2020. However, it was pushed back to an unspecified date later in 2020 in October 2019.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is a direct sequel to the 2004 cult hit Vampire: The Masquerade. Although the sequel is being developed by an entirely new team, the original game’s writer, Brian Mitsoda, is on board as narrative lead. The game is the flagship of Paradox’s video game adaptations of the World of Darkness tabletop games, which also includes Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood and Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife.
