Sure, nobody likes George Harrison, you can be him.

WHAT! George wrote motherfuckin' "While my guitar Gently weeps"! Who can I be then, someone that isn't hated by everyone!

The secret is that I'll just say that no matter who you pick.

Just don't tell ToastiestZombie, that guy doesn't know.

NOW I DO!

So, if you say that to everyone then how come you didn't say it for Brian Blessed? Is it because his magnificent facial hair has somehow indoctrinated you to believe in the way of Blessedism?

Kill John Lennon.

What? No, of course not!

Also, how come I haven't seen any of your british food threads in a while?

I'm sorry.

I'll be sure to put more effort into my nonsensical thread derailing.

@OP

Honestly I think the mods on this site are a bit of a joke (Watch as I receive a warning/ban for this post)

I don't tend to post on here much but do tend to read a lot to gauge peoples opinions on certain things and it does rather seem like if someone strays ever so slightly off topic they will receive a warning or a ban.

"Hey guys, Just to let you know I like bread"

"Hey fellow forum goer, I like to put stuff on my bread to make a nice snack. I also like to drink a nice tall glass of milk with my bread based snack." *THIS USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST.*

Okay maybe it's not that extreme but you get where I'm going with this.

Any slight deviation from a topic that a few people can roll with for a few posts and the thread is locked and the "offenders" are warned/banned.
Any type of criticism against mods perhaps being a bit too harsh will also end up with similar results...In fact I'm surprised OP hasn't been warned/banhammered already.

I can see the need for strict post moderation in something like an news item, but when it's on a forum called "off-topic discussion" then I think It's just unnecessary flexing of e-muscles to actually make having mod powers somewhat worth the while.

good, can't have things making any kinda sense after the first page, to aid this further

i present Nyan cat and senseless violence!!

We need a new ghost thread sometime soon =P

More on topic, I can sort of see why the thread was locked, but I'd rather we allowed a couple of "fun threads" like that. However, the mods do do a good job, and if they believe stopping threads like these are important to make sure that The Escapist doesn't decline in quality then fair enough.

I don't think the mods are nearly as strict as you seem to think they are.

The only reason the escapist isn't just another 4chan or reddit is because of all the hard work our mods do.

Sure, they can get it wrong sometimes, but that's why there is an appeal system in place, and it works (I got a suspension repealed because of a misunderstanding).

Why shouldn't the thread exist? The mods are incredibly schizophrenic at times. Issuing people warnings for posting in joke threads, while allowing people to be condescending, insulting and out right assholes. We're supposed to follow the forum rules? funny because people break them more than half the time and get away with it.

Yeah maybe I went a little too overboard with that example, but to me that is what they seem like.

I have honestly seen someone be banned just for having an opinion that was different to the mod/general community...If I remember correctly it was a thread that discussed if abortions are "right" if a woman was raped. As you'd expect the community response was more or less "she should be able to have the abortion because it was rape, not a one night stand" but this other guy who had a strong view on abortion said "No she should keep it, she was probably asking for it anyways"

Obviously, that guy was a jackass, but it was still his opinion and he was banned for a few days for it...Not saying in anyway that his opinion could be considered to be right in any context, but it was his view and it conflicted with what a mod thought so it equalled a ban.

As others have said, it's absolutely disgusting that a thread like that is locked while there are still billions of ME3 threads being posted continuously with no recourse.

Hey mods, if you're trying to get rid of useless threads that don't add any discussion value, why not go for the dicks that keep posting the same threads about a stupid game ending?

SmashLovesTitanQuest:

Anyhow, off to PM Nasrin! ...Right when I'm done playing Minecraft.

Thanks! And yeah I agree with the notion of a forum poll to illustrate the actual interest of the concept. I think it should hypothetically go over well with the public and if it does, that should show the staff that there is merit in the concept. I agree, dont wanna go overboard with over specialization, but yeah, The basement is a solid idea, and I kinda like the Art/Music/Lit/Other Media forum idea. Only concern is that it might draw too much from Off topic. But with as popular as off topic is, and the misconception that only off topic & gaming registers in latest threads like it once did will still lend itself to people dumping most things into off topic anyway to ensure maximum exposure, despite that no longer being relevant.

Hey, come on folks, lets tone down the mod hate. They are not perfect but I am glad we have them. They do a good job overall. And hell, if you dont think so, you can voice that discontent here, but dont say they do a bad job or that they suck or whatever, thats not really the case.

Im not trying to have a go at anyone, im just saying. Maybe you guys get in trouble with the mods because when you criticize them you dont do it in a constructive fashion. I made sure to word my post carefully and make it as constructive as possible, and I didnt get into trouble for it.

In case you havent seen it yet, I actually put off PMing Nasrin and made another thread about more subforums first. Mentioned your "The basement" idea. Going to send Nasrin that PM when the general community has voiced their opinions on more subforums.

Yeah, looks like the mods got a little trigger-happy about that.

*notices the OP of that thread was suspended*

Okay, looks like the mods got very trigger-happy about that.

Fawxy:
That thread was hilarious, although as others have mentioned the OP of that thread gets a serious "cool point" deduction for not including Hammer Time as an option.

The suspension is also 37 different levels of fucktarded.

OT: I'm all for the silly threads. I see no problem with them, and would like an actual explanation as to why they're locked.

ElPatron:
Completely against the 14 day suspension.

It depends on the kind of fun. The question the OP of that thread is perfectly reasonable. It wasn't offensive, and there is actually much to be said about it.

Lionsfan:
If it's in Off-Topic discussion and people are replying to it I don't understand locking it. And I don't get the 14 day suspension either

Xenowolf:
Tbh, I'm not sure wherever it should have been locked or not, but a 14 day suspension just for that is simply fucking ridiculous.

FalloutJack:
Mods should not lock threads that are completely without break of the rules. This is the off-topic forum. Funny, random stuff is what it's FOR. God knows I've already broken eighteen dimensions proving that, so why does anyone on-staff take issue with this sort of thing?

The user was suspended rather than given a warning because that was his next level on the Forum Health Meter. We also look at previous punishments.

From the Code Of Conduct

Put Some Effort Into Your Communication

Topicless Thread Creation
Posting a thread without any discussion value, or with a deliberately misleading title, will get you penalized and your thread locked. This includes creating a poll without an accompanying discussion.

From what I see of that thread it was pointless and had nothing to discuss.

Forum games have all the non-serious threads

I'm guessing the suspension was due to previous moderation being stacked on. Perhaps lock the thread after a few pages of fun and get back to real discussion. I don't agree with the suspension if it skipped straight to that level of moderation past the warnings. If he's done something similar in the past and been warned not to, well, it's on him.

I'd tell you guys the secret to making fun threads on the Escapist but I'm too tired. Maybe another time...

I think they should just let us roam free. Order and rules and laws are for weaklings! D:<

derintrel:
Eh. As long as it's not offensive, I really see no reason for a locking.

But the question is, where goes the line between offensive and funny? For example, I had a related discussion about this with a friend. My friend thinks that the video below is funny, but another guy told him that it was really offensive and he should feel bad.

So where does the line go, when different people find different things offensive?

TimeLord:
-A bit of quoting-

Seems to me there was no communication error if the thread progressed for fun and...well...fun. Was there an actual complaint or was this a simple judgement call. If the latter, then I don't see the reasoning behind it. So far as I know, it wasn't a game either. And if it was, then why not just move it? You've moved improperly-placed topics before.

FalloutJack:
. So far as I know, it wasn't a game either.

Ok I am somewhat purposely taking this out of context. The concept is that the name "forum games" is off putting and by the title its easy and logical for one to make the connection to the forum being for a competitive nature as opposed to an "almost anything within reason goes" forum. So to someone makes a thread to share some random nonsense (Oddly Third eagle of the apocalypse just came to mind) it is counter intuitive to place it in forum games. Point is that this is how easily people would be dissuaded from posting in forum games simply because of the context of the name.

Electro Dave:
but this other guy who had a strong view on abortion said "No she should keep it, she was probably asking for it anyways"

So the guy said a rape victim was probably asking for it and got banned? I don't really see an issue here.
