My opinion has been validated!

But seriously, RF1 rocked. (I mean it).

sirdanrhodes:
I didn't like the first Red Faction, but I DID like this one.

Wow. You must be my parallell world opposite!

When you live in world where everything is constructed of Styrofoam and Triscuits! Excellent review that I agreed with completely.

Yahtzee takes a long look at the past on his wedding day. He looks so pretty in his nice dress.

A great video, can't wait to see what you do next week for your 100th episode.

I am quite surprised. I mean does anyone else feel like he really got revenge against Red Faction? Becuase I sure don't.

Oh well. I guess I can wait for whatever he got's planned for next week.

Boy this was a tough review to watch, considering Yahtzee was wrong coming out of the gate. Red Faction 1 was a fantastic game ON THE PC. Why would you even bother rating an old FPS on a console when it had a counterpart on the PC? That just seems stupid. Yahtzee of all people should know better.

Just like there's no reason for me to go out and buy Red Faction: Guerrilla right now when I know full well a PC version is coming out soon.

Thanks a ton Yahtzee -_-

Oh no, the review wasn't bad, and I don't care that you trashed RFG, but I was eating Taco Bell while listening and now Im picking tortilla shell bits out of my nose

So basicly, hilarious review, but add a warning label.

Maybe just an ordinary review and won't give a shit what number it is. Or maybe a 5 second reference to the deluded retards from the American School system who think 100 is a number worth a damn...*Raises hand.*

why didnt you give a damn at his first review? THATS A MORE SIGNIFICANT FIGURE DAMN YOU >:(

Well... The Escapist belived that the number 4 was worth a damn. I guess they expected to be bankrupt by now.

Heh, but I thought Yahtzee was married to Silent Hill 2? Or is he just a polygamist?

Good review, but I disagree with what he said at the end with how it might have succeded as an actual guerrila simulator (instead of chimpanzee, ho ho). Forcing guerilla style warfare would have just made the already restrained destruction more restrained by denying you the chance to go crazy with explosives (I'm going on Yahtzee's word though, the destruction in the demo seemed pretty limitless to me). And if they just removed the destruction, they'd be removing the only unique thing about the game.

Well I'm not a big shooter fan and didn't play the original (though I have this one) so I can't comment. Seems to be a game people have strong feelings about, however consider that the game has TWO sequels now, so honestly a goodly number of people might have liked it.

As a side note:

David Bowie did a song called "Green Spiders From Mars". I thought Yahtzee's last text comment about wanting to for mars, but hearing about all the giant spiders up there, was a lot funnier than the Gueriella/Chimpanzee pun. But I guess it's a bit too dated, you sort of had to be listening to David Bowie's music about the time he played "The Goblin King" in Labyrinth.

blacklab:
What is the Dahlix (sp)? Can't find it on googs.

?

I think you mean Dalek

Do some searches on "Doctor Who" and you will find more information on them than any sane person would want to know. :)

PiCroft:
Call me a freak but I rather liked the first Red Faction.

Me too. It was, in my opinion, one of the most unique games of it's time, and the geomod was unheard of until that game. They did a lot of fun things with it too, like destroying a bridge, sending an APC spiraling down into the abyss, going around locked doors with big mining machinery, discovering supplies hidden in closed off caves, and everyone's favorite: making tunnels and pits in multiplayer. The story got a little convoluted at times, but the settings were varied enough to keep me interested, multiplayer was fast and frantic, and it was also one of the few games to add in bot mode, unlike several big name shooters I can think of. The only thing that grew tiring for me was the Ultor security guards' dialogue. "Die miner! Don't hurt me! WAAAUUGH!"

Archaon6044:
i hear what you say about them spiders from Mars. That Ziggy Stardust character is the most dangerous of the lot
then there's those damn giant mice that ride motorcycles

Hmmm, well as I've said twice now I thought it was a referance to a David Bowie song. BUT then again part of the point is that it can refer to a number of things hence why he keeps hearing about them.

Still, given that I do remember when David Bowie was popular, but was too old to see much of "Biker Mice From Mars" it probably explains why I would think of Dave before more recent referances.

I feel old.

The game is fun, destroying buildings is really fun, i thought the story drags out too long, i just wanted to shood down the evil spaceship hydra or whatever its called but nooooooo. go to more missions before the maudrauders help you. cool game though

Thanks for the info. I've never watched Dr. Who.

I cant get it to play so I dont know if he makes mention of it but I believe this is his 100th video with The Escapist.

sunami88:
It's not playing for me either, and I disabled Ad-Block (eventhough I write my own filter list, and it was working fine last week...).

Check the help page and see if any of that helps you. It usually does. If you're still having trouble, the last item on the list has some contact info and stuff to send us, and we'll try to get you fixed up as soon as possible.

We updated our video player to the latest version of Flowplayer last week, which fixed a bunch of know problems, but it's possible that there are some new unknown ones now.

Despite some scepticism, I started going down the list of possible fixes. Turns out the version of Flash Player I installed (less than a month ago - I reinstalled my whole OS less than a month ago), was out of date.

So it was nothing on your guys end.

Anyways, on topic: Great review. I however LOVED Red Faction 1, and totally hated 2. But 3 definitely feels like it'll be forgotten in a month or two...

Great review but he missed very huge parts of the game, like maybe the multiplayer. to me the multiplayer balances out the downfall of the single player. also wheres the rant about the uslessness of the wrecking crew variant of the game.

This must be ultra fun (compared)

Someone doesn't know Yahtzee very well. He hates multiplayer and frankly with more games having the same online functionality as everything else I sympathise (sp?)

Oi, Red Faction 1 wasn't bad. In fact, I really enjoyed it.
Played it on the PC, though, maybe 'twas worse with console controls.

Overall, I enjoyed your review a lot, though. I especially liked the return to a slightly slower pace and quieter (but more snarky) approach. A few of your latest reviews seemed to mostly constist of growling obscenities very loudly, so I'm happy about this return to old form.

What do you mean "First Review"? I jokingly said something about the 100th video next week. And now I look like an asshole, don't I?

I like the image of a Dalek with a thumbs up at the end of the suction gun, and the story as well. It was fairly awesome, in other terms.

Yes that last pun was brilliant.

That has to be the funniest bit I've seen to date
"No it fuckin' hadn't, Red Faction: Guerilla, now get out of my way so I can break all of your stuff!"

If you are running an ad blocker, that is probably it. Also, this is the 98th episode...

EDIT: August 5th...see what happens when you think you are a week ahead?

didn't you first say it was the 99th?????? anyway I hope he will do like a half our review on World of warcraft and other MMO's for the heck of it xD

achilleas.k:
Is it me or is Yahtzee's rant style getting slower?

Nah, its just with practice, you've tuned yourself to his speed.
Hmm, poo that explodes, could be useful.

Therumancer:
Awsome referance to an obscure David Bowie song at the end there Yahtzee.

Also very nice to see you did this, given the advertising they did on the Escapist (even going so far as to have a badge) it's nice to see that they still let you critique them in your own unique and wonderful style.

...yet, apparently, not old enough.

You do know what Bowie did before the Labyrinth era, right? No, before that. No, after that. 1972-ish. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Not "green" (for which Google turns up nothing), not a song per se, and...not really obscure.

Ya know I had complete forgot this was supposed to be a guerilla style game 'til Yahtzee mentioned it.

phoenixbeast:
Loved it...Totally agree with the last point...If its supposed to be like Guerrilla warfare, they totally messed that up...

I liked it. Both the Review and the game. But i disagree with that somewhat. When i played i would sneak around place mines in precision areas and then take out several buildings in one explosion without being seen or shot at once. Very fun.

Is this video not working for anyone else?
Its just a circle in the upper left thats rotating.

Anyone have any idea how to get it to play? I really want to watch this.

I'm not entirely sure if my ears were working correctly but it sounded like Yahtzee actually reviewed this game! In his own way of course. I'm not sure if he was getting some stick or something but have the last few ZP's been a bit more 'content' filled? I mean to me they seem more like theyre telling you something about the game rather than just filling 3 minutes with hilarious sideswipes at the game in question (Sims3 excepted of course), like earlier ZP's used to be. I was starting to get bored of ZP a couple of months ago but the last few have rekindled my passion =)

That was pretty good. There's something about Yahtzee's style that comes off well when denouncing insufficient context for going nuts in a virtual environment.
