Trailers: The Elder Scrolls Online - Teaser

so they de-uglified the altmer?

I know they were trying to go for more than "humans with pointy ears" in Skyrim but damn did that make em ugly.

Also Kajiit and Argonian would have helped nail this to ES rather than just any fantasy game. Perhaps 2 characters per shot.
Altmer/Argonian
Nord/Orc
Bosmer/Kajiit

then there would be no denying that it was for Elder Scrolls.

Most of the things people are complaining about in this game are cos they started it 5 years ago. Back then there was no Rift or TOR and they thought it was actually possible for a WOW clone to be successful. They probably just added the block mechanic in more recently when they heard about TERA and GW2.

Anyone else ready for the sinking of atlanTES?

That was... informative?
.___.

No really, what?

It's funny because the trailer is pointless, tries too hard to be badass, and is just an all-around piece of crap.

SUPA FRANKY:
Man, this trailer answered so many questions I needed to be answered. Totally worth the wait.

Not to be rude, but what questions could that possibly have answered?

I came up with 3-

Will there be viking people? YES
Will there be generic looking elves? YES
Will there be some guy with a bow? YES

I really cannot see what other questions that may have answered.

Personally, I would say that the trailer was uninspiring.

EDIT;

haha, sorry, I was a little slow picking up the sarcasm. It doesn't work so well in text.
<3

So they release a second pointless teaser trailer. Good job building up the excitement Zenimax/Bethesda.

Well, there goes a franchise I love.

I'm just pretending this doesn't exist. Not the trailer. The game itself.

Zachary Amaranth:
I suppose you don't have to do much to tease TES, but...Meh.

Needs more pun.

OT: Anyone have any solid odds on this game failing? I'm going 1:1.

Ugh, honestly this game just upsets me now. I know it's not being made by Bethesda Game Studios, but the problem is, alot of people still think it is. Though that is simply horrible ignorance, it still does tarnish the name of the brand itself, and thats not cool at all.

This trailer was nothing, it was a waste of time for whoever painstakingly did the animation. This has added no new fans or excitement to the prospect of TES: the WoW clone, and has really only hurt the project further. That is mostly due to the god-aweful Elves in this. Skyrim did a great thing by making the Mer something unique, and this just stepped back and spat on that. ESO is being made by a group of people with no spark of creativity in their entire bodies, the game is shaping up like it is being made by focus group from start to finish.

Unless they step back, hold the release date, and seriously overhaul the entire game, it will flop. There isn't even an arguement there, this will bomb horribly if the design continues in any way like it is now. Just look at the comments for your proof, in two pages, not a single positive comment, and thats how it is across the entire internet.

Hit about 46 seconds. Nothing happens...

Battering ram? Cool, maybe now the action will pick up and - oh, that was it.

Yay?

*Snore* I was cautiously pessimistic before. Now I think it may as well be full on pessimism. The next one had better show at the least something to distinguish it from a Blizzard game or the crickets will be deafening.

FlameAx:

Good knows for you beths developing studio ( the guys behind FO3, Skyrim, and the other elderscrolls) are not developing this , zenimax online is , so its not going to delay any new REAL elderscrolls game or fallout 4

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I always forget how Bethesda the publisher and Bethesda game studios are different entities. I still wish they wouldn't tarnish the name of TES with an online game that sounds, by all accounts, to be a crappy wow clone

BehattedWanderer:
Meh. Needs more Argonians.

and Khajiit.

I swear game designers are biggots. No attention or love towards the Orcs, Argonians, or Khajiit. Always humanish races and Elves. Come to think of it, not in any current screenshots I can find are there even any Argonians or Khajiit.

Eleima:
Where are the Khajiit? The Argonians? Also, way to take a step back and go back to generic looking elves, Bethesda. You'd done so well with making the Mer alien looking in Skyrim, and now this...
I am disappointed.

Ok, let me clarify things for those who suddenly lost eyesight
Argonian- 00:35 lower left corner
Khajiit- 00:48 operating battering ram
Orsimers- 00:43 both soldiers on the right from the archer
And also it seems there finally will be Imga (00:35 lower right corner) in a TES game
And, no, don't ask me how I know- I have my sources :D

I'm gonna have to take your word for it, because I can't make anything out, at all. XD
See any Bretons? They're my go to race. ^_^

I actually believed this long enough to go back and look for these things. *headdesk*

oh fyi, it doesn't get anymore interesting the second or third or fourth viewings.

It may have been a hoax but the 'features' list I saw for TES Online makes me think this probably was gameplay footage.

That Altmer was not an Altmer, :( I love the Elder Scrolls but am struggling to find reasons to be looking forward to this so far. I know it's early days, but Generic Fantasy MMO just springs to mind. C'mon, Zenimax, don't let me down.

Well, that was patently terrible.

TES: Online will be awful. I saw it happen with Final Fantasy, and it'll happen to TES. See ya, it's been fun.

Yeah, that's not what elves look like in TES.

...No. I can't take your word for that, since everyone you specified is indistinguishable from anyone else. Even going frame by frame, I see no Khajiit. I call Shenanigans!

Generic with a capital MEH.

But when you try to render a whole continent with half an RPG's worth of content, that's all your going to get. Close your eyes, Tamriel fans.

Umm, this is a teaser people, not a trailer. Granted it's slightly less teasery than that... other teaser we had a few weeks ago, but it's still just a teaser. It's basically just there to tell you that shit is in the works, yo. A trailer gives you a wider view of the flavour of a game; a trailer this is not.

Soviet Heavy:
I have a question: When did the Mer get replaced by WOWs blood elfs?

When everyone realized the Mer had faces resembling a cat's ass?

That could have been a trailer for any number of games, WoW, LotRO, Dragon Age, ext. At least it's a little more nothing than the last nothing trailer.

Even as a teaser trailer it doesn't work you have to show me at least one thing to get me excited, showing me things that have already been in Elder Scrolls games isn't worth getting revved up about.

Generic Dwarf warrior, generic elf wizard, generic human ranger. Battering ram logo entrance.

I feel like I'm watching their whole marketing department run around, screaming "BUY OUR GAME, WE ARE HORRIBLY OUT OF IDEAS BUT WE HEAR LOTR WAS KINDA COOL AND THIS IS THE SORT OF SHIT THAT GETS CALLED EPIC THESE DAYS SO PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WE HAVE HUSBANDS WIVES AND KIDS JUST BUY OUR DAMN WHATEVERTHEHELL WE'RE MAKING".

I dusted off the hate machine, just to prepare myself. I didn't really want to use it.

But it's getting revved up now, full force.

I'll take a co-op Skyrim over another hotkey mashing, generic fantasy MMO.

If it's an MMO, I want no part of it. Period. I've played them, I've had my time with them, and it's over. MMO's are DEAD. Stop trying to recreate the colossal cash cow that WoW started. The tit's run dry, it's time to let it go.

Soviet Heavy:
I have a question: When did the Mer get replaced by WOWs blood elfs?

About the same time 47 started murdering porno-nuns. :P

You know, if it didn't say Elder Scrolls at the end, I don't think I would have been able to tell what this was.

Lord_Jaroh:

It's not Bethesda making it, and it will be a WoW clone. Whether it turns into a good clone remains to be seen, however, considering all they've shown, I seriously doubt it.

THIS. ONE THOUSAND TIMES, THIS. ^^^

I would not count on this game being any good because 1) the people who made the Elder Scrolls great aren't behind it, and 2) it, by its very nature, must depart from what makes the TES series great.

Think about it, people. What is the point of TES? An immersive single-player experience centered around storytelling. You know what genre is pretty much incapable of that? An MMO. (Yeah, a bunch of random people bunny hopping around DEFINITELY isn't going to destroy my sense of immersion [/sarcasm].)

Oh, and the reason why the trailer was entirely CGI instead of the usual stunning gameplay footage used to market TES games is that the engine will have to take massive graphical sacrifices to be an MMO. I wouldn't even count on it being open-world.

That's why Todd Howard said that he'd never do it. In fact, I bet this REALLY pissed off Howard.

Allow me to explain. Notice that below the video it says that Bethesda is the publisher and that Zenimax Online Studios is the developer. For those of you who aren't aware, the developer is actually the one who makes the game. If you look closely at your Skyrim box, you will notice that it says "Bethesda Game Studios" (it's the one with the silver gear symbol), and right next to that is another sign that Says "Bethesda Softworks" with the clause "a Zenimax Media company" right under it (it's the one with white font and a little box in the top left before the 'B' in Bethesda).

Bethesda Game Studios is the actual development team that made the game, whereas Bethesda Softworks is a larger publishing company that works with several studios and is owned by Zenimax. The former is what Todd Howard heads: (via Howard's Wikipedia page: "He [Howard] currently serves as Game Director and Executive Producer at Bethesda Game Studios, where he has led the creation of Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls video game series" (my italics).

In other words, Howard and the people who made the other Elder Scrolls games don't seem to have anything to do with this new game. What I'm guessing happened is that Zenimax got greedy and decided to capitalize on the franchise and they built their own development team to do so because the devs at Bethesda Game Studios was having none of it. Of course Howard is way too savy to complain or tell people not to buy the game, he won't bite the hand that feeds.

Of course, none of this guarantees that the game will be bad. It could be that Zenimax hired a bunch of really top-notch devs who know how to build MMOs and that they didn't want to burden Howard's team with something that they are unfamiliar. But one can hardly be blamed for being cynical if they have suspicions that Zenimax is just trying to make a quick buck off of name recognition.
