For some strange reason I "wasted" my money on a Wii, and SSBB is the only game I've found that justifies this massive expense. Great game for when you're depressed, bored or tired of "dead" (realistic) graphics. I don't get why people complain they can't see the characters. All you need is two (or even just one) working eye(s)?

because people love to complain and Brawl has brought an unprecedented amount of complaints

This is the 1298th comment on this review? DAMN not a whole lot of SSBB fans here obviously.

Ok 1299th comment sorry.

Brawl still remains a favourite of mine if only for the incredible and hilarious manliness of one Captain Falcon, and watching Snake strangle Sonic is eye candy quite frankly.

Okay, someone probably commented on this, but first of all, Marth was from the first Fire Emblem game, which was a Japan-only game for the NES, and his appearance in SSBM resulted in the Fire Emblem series being released outside of Japan. Second of all, Sonic can be unlocked in multiplayer by beating Classic mode with ten different characters, and Solid Snake can be unlocked by playing a certain number of battles on Shadow Moses Island. Third of all, the Smash Bros. series was made by HAL Labs, one of Nintendo's Second-party companies, who, like Game Freak, is sticking to making mainstream games, as opposed to casual games, so, next time you review a game by HAL Labs, or some other Nintendo second-party game (some advice: Kirby Superstar Ultra or Pokemon HeartGold and/or SoulSilver), at least take the time to bash the second-party company, and not nintendo themselves, as they usually have minimal involvement in the game, with the exception of the Smash Bros. series, which is usually based around a Kirby-style game engine.

Brawl wasn't that great, but it wasn't THAT bad, either. What I hate is how some of the levels compel you to keep moving or you die. I'm playing the game to fight my opponent, not the level.

why is this thread still going on? OT: i think that Yahtzee did a good job with the review and the email showdown he did it later

if it the wii you hate conected the game cube controler

I remember when Brawl was DA SHIT my friend got a wii. So for a night he invited over me, our friend called Tony and a guy he knew called Louie. I got the impression that this Louie kid was rich up the ass (Hardly surprising as his mum is Lisa Wilkinson and his dad is Peter Fitzsimmons *No joke*) and brought along 4 of his 8 wii controllers and a copy of brawl. So once all had arrived at his flat it was a night filled with pizza, brawl, brazillian cake and the matrix two not to mention the afternoon beforehand, which was kind of boring and filled with me making smartass comments about my sexy new Mii thing and the necessity of a butt-wiggle before swinging in Wii-Golf. We spent 8 hours (I'm fairly sure it was that long)that night playing it (Brawl that is)and considering the massive headache the following morning I had attained it's safe to say you need four people all the time to make this game enjoyable. You could just play the campaign again and agian if you're a loser or you could wait ages to get in a single match with online play. Kickass review man. Oh and btw we actually unlocked like half of the characters AND maps a few hours in (But admittedly that was because my friend had a strategy guide and we had extreme amounts of patience to play on shadow moses umpty badillion times just to get Snake!)

i have a wii and this game and i like it its not great but its not horrible mostly entertaining like nintendo games are supposed to be and if people are acually getting upset by what yatzzee says about games they should go home because we all got opnions and people need to learn that soon.

this is a Great game, and ol' Yahtzee really just mocked it! He does know u can play it 4 ways right?

Yahtzee, i think you are a little bit harsh on the wii. It works don't it? But i love your movie. Yay fo Yahtzee! Worlds Best Game Critic

take a breath.

isn't telling people who don't like other people's opinions to go home a bit like not liking other people's opinions?
...just my opinion ;o)

Dear lord 1311 posts? Well done Yahtzee quite alot of complains or props.

Now on topic as a person who actually enjoys playing brawl I would like to say that playing it is fun in addition to other activities. Playing it as a followup to a movie is quite entertaining once you have 4 people who are all having a good time and the helarious randomness brawl can create (like L4D) is something really irreplaceable which makes the night awesome.

Just saying though it isnt your type of game and that should be respected, it is however a game I enjoy so I will continue to enjoy it and I really hope you continue to make funny reviews.

HAAA You think unlocking sonic is a pain, in ssb melee you have to play one match for 20 hours or something to unlock mewtwo, you can also just play 900 matches (I don't remember exactly). I don't understand why nintendo would make unlockable characters so difficult to unlock, wtf is their problem!

oh hell im a that guy NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Extremely funny, he is absoultely correct that nintendo has been spewing out the same amount of crap they have been for years

i honestly don't understand fan boys i love some games (god of war-gears of war-fable-overlord-oblivion-bioshock-fallout 3) but I'm not personally insulted by people that make fun of these games zeropunctuation doesn't like some games that i like and insulted most of them but i don't care i still find his videos amusing I'm not very loyal i rent most games and if i like it ill buy it I'm not going to keep coming back to a company that continually disappoints me and buy there games to please them that's why i haven't played sonic in over 10 years i don't care if i have the most despised game in the world if its fun i don't care if everyone else hates it but I'm not going to run to its defence either crying foul you must love what i love or shutup

Even though I actually enjoy this game alot (mainly because we play it at college when there's nothing else to do) I gotta say that this video and the one that it spawned (mailbox meltdown) were classic.

I seriously enjoy watching Yahtzee ripping some of my faveourite games apart. One of my fave games ever was The World Ends With You but I still found his review entertaining. Nearly as entertaining as watching him verbally bitch slap all the fan-boys who wrote and complained about this review.

Great work, keep it up.

I have a pal who is a nintendo fanboy, and whenever I say another game like half life, left 4 dead, portal, quake, or silent hill is good, he says "NO, MARIO IS WAY BETTER" I then tell him about Yhatzee, and how much he has to say about mario, and he can't think of any comeback.
Thank you for giving me something I can shove up his butt so far he chokes on it.

Good review :)

I didn't have quite the same problem as you had, because i have a friend who is a "That guy" so i never need to look far for a challenge. I agree with your points, but i don't think it was as bad as you made it out to be, I just think hyped WAY out of proportion and there was no way that it could live up to that.

It does indeed suck ass.

Indeed! I feel the same way, though the New Super Mario Bros. Wii is highly amusing when you play it with multiple people.

I guess that means Yahtzee wouldn't find it all that great (then again, did he already do a review on that game? I honestly can't remember).

LoL I hate how unreasonable the requirements are to unlock the secret characters.

Awesome review (as always) and it made me laugh my ass off, but I completely disagree.

I've played that game a lot, I'm pretty good at it and blah blah blah..
My point is that this is actually not a button-masher, you really need some strategy to win over most people with most characters. Some of the characters in the game are complete novice-picks for button-mashers, but some of them (including my personal pick Lucario, who's at his best at that point of the match when every single attack that hits him sends him flying 200yrds either up, left or right) require a lot of skill to manage in a decent way.

But that's my opinion and my point of view.

"Yahtzee" Croshaw, setting a new standard for proper reviewing.

thats why i cheated and got all the charecters and stages right away XD LOLOLOL

I loved the game, epic manic random fun. However it is a matter of taste, if you want a game where the best man wins, don't play it. If you want a game where everything keeps changing and there are large scale reversals then Brawl is your game.

YOUR'RE SOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKING AWESOME YAHTZEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I rather enjoyed this review. I can only assume that everyone at nintendo does shrooms (hell they make you bigger or smaller IN THE GAME) I don't see how anyone can enjoy this game. It's more repetitive than... well... I can' think of anything right now but it is VERY repetitive.

I was always "That Guy." As soon as Melee introduced characters with a counter ability, any party i went to would have an established rule: "Mike CANNOT USE MARTH, ROY, IKE, OR PEACH!" Not that it helped, my timing was always at a level above my friends so whenever i was around it switched to me being the entertainment of the night by mixing drinks. At least in culinary skills "That Guy" is actually embraced.
Though come to think of it, it really wasn't so much my talent as the retardation of the other people who i would game with. You'd think they would learn to stop using Captain Falcon or Ganondorf but NOOOO... fucking retards and their Falcon Punch...

I like SSBB but every review that positively reviewed it seemed to be doing so on the fact that the other smash bros games were good. How the hell is that good reviewing?! Titanic was a good movie but that dosen't mean the pile of crap on syfy Titanic 2 is any good.

It's great to see a reviewer who is basing this on the game itself and not it's franchise history.

As much as i like (love?) this game, and the series in general, i have to say, i agree fully with the review. It's easy to see why anyone would not like it.
Plus, this review was just too funny :)
Way to go Yahtzee, sir.
