people people calm down. Kotatku dose a week to week sells chart in Japan

the only reason the 360 outsold everyone this week is because of star ocean 4's release. It happened with a few other traditional JRPGs as well but it never last long. things will be back to normal over there with Wii at top PS3 in second and 360 in 3rd (not counting handhelds or the PS2)in another week or 2. these never last that long

Reaperman Wompa:
The rivers of blood sounds more likely... Maybe possible with the amount of JRPG's, but to still beat Sony on it's absolute undisputed (or so we thought) home turf is amazing.

It's for a week, seriously. I'm sure it's happened a couple of times before with other releases of JRPGs on the 360.

While I may slightly applaud the 360 for this "feat" (I'm still #2 of the fanboys after all ;P ), I wouldn't be impressed until the 360 outsells everything in a month or two.

We're counting week to week now?

Japan always tracks hardware week to week.

And the Nikkei has risen today. The recesion is finally over...

Oh wait...

Soon, it will be "sales per minute"...

Today in console news daily, our top-story: Something beats the Wii!...for a week

I find it weird that for the past two console generations Playstation was the console to get if your were big into JRPGs, but now it's Xbox.

Big into, yes, but not qualiy. The best JRPG this generation is still Valkyria Chronicles.

Hardly a traditional JRPG though, its essentially a strategy game with a JRPG disguise. White Knight Chronicles may be the PS3 first true JRPG.

Depends how you define JRPG. since its more an Action RPG.

It's an SRPG in the same vein of Sakura Wars, seeing as they share a very similar battle system

Except Sakura Wars follows a more traditional 'turn based' system for unit turns, while your given free-range with VC

And even then the DS will rank in the millions

I would think the main reason is that everyone in Japan probably already has a Wii.

Bingo.

The PSP is still selling well? I thought it was dead.

Enchanted Arms seemed pretty Japanese to me, so did Disgaea 3, but I guess the option to have "Japanese Voices" in a "Role-Playing Game" made in "Japan" does not a JRPG make, necessarily. There IS Eternal Sonata, which has all the bad voice acting and simple game-play you could possibly want from a JRPG.

That said, if I were a Playstation fan (which I am) and a fan of the Star Ocean series (which I'm not), I'd be pretty disgruntled at the move of Star Ocean to the 360, especially since I have been a Microsoft hater since Windows 3.1....and would lose interest in the series. Probably.

The question for me is: Are the JRPG makers seeking a new audience, are they just plain lazy, or did MS just woo them with dollar signs? Maybe a combination....
