Xenoblade Chronicles’ Shulk Joins Super Smash Bros

Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles and his sword, the Monado, join the fight in Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS.

Xenoblade Chronicles hero Shulk is the newest addition to the Super Smash Bros roster. Shulk was already revealed in a leaked video earlier this week, along with two other characters, but now the official announcement has come through.

In the video released today by Nintendo, Shulk is wielding his iconic energy blade, the Monado, which was featured of the cover of the game. Almost all of Shulk’s attacks shown in the video are based on the use of the legendary weapon.

Xenoblade Chronicles faced a challenge to get released in North America, with fans petitioning for the game to come stateside while Nintendo debated the logistics, costs, and potential sales of bring it over. Apparently, bringing over the game was a good idea, if inclusion of the lead character in Super Smash Bros is any indication of success.

Bringing Shulk into the Nintendo fighting franchise is a fantastic treat for Xenoblade Chronicles fans, but they have more to look forward to in 2015. Developer Monolith Soft announced Xenoblade Chronicles X for Wii U at E3 last June.

There are at least two more characters to be announced for Super Smash Bros. Considering how long Nintendo dragged out announcements of characters for Super Smash Bros Brawl, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them do the same with the next iteration in the franchise.
