texting groot from guardians of the galaxy

A Twilio developer has developed an SMS chatbot for people send text messages to Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Groot delivers life lessons to anyone who wants to text him, thanks to an SMS chatbot developed by Ricky Robinett of Twilio, a cloud communications company. Groot’s response is exactly what you’d expect.

TechCrunch reports Groot’s number is (866) 740-4531. The chatbot went live on September 15 and has continued to grow in popularity. Groot had better have an unlimited texting plan; Robinett said Groot has sent over 60,000 messages to people.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a superhero film based on the comics of the same title about a band of misfits who must protect the galaxy from a villain who gains dangerous power. One of these misfits is a tree-like creature named Groot whose grasp of language allows him to only vocalize, “I am Groot.”

Vin Diesel, who voiced Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, repeated the line over the course of the movie in multiple languages and varying emotional complexity.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn will return to write and direct the sequel.
