Hulu Releases First Images From Stephen King’s 11.22.63

The series based on King’s 2011 novel looks like it could be Hulu’s answer to House of Cards.

Stephen King is the most wanted man in Hollywood right now, it would seem. The prolific author has been optioning off his work to film studios left and right, including two of his most popular novels, The Stand and The Dark Tower, and one of his more recent bestsellers, Revival (which is in fact responsible for the delay of The Stand).

For fans of King’s less horror-y work, though, Hulu’s upcoming adaptation of his pseudo-political thriller 11.22.63 might be the most intriguing. Based on King’s 2011 megahit, which spent 16 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list and won the 2011 Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Best Mystery/Thriller and the 2012 International Thriller Writers Award for Best Novel, the upcoming eight episode series is being brought to Hulu via executive producer J.J. Abrams, and that’s not the only thing it has going for it.

No, 11.22.63 also has got a stellar cast backing it up — James Franco, Josh Duhamel, and Chris Cooper to name a few — and is getting a big push from Hulu as part of their upcoming lineup of original programming. It’s also got a hell of a central conceit, which sees “high school English teacher Jake Epping (James Franco) travel back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy – but his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald, and falling in love and the past itself, which doesn’t want to be changed.”

Ahead of its premiere next Monday, Hulu has released a handful of images from 11.22.63, which look like a cross between North by Northwest and Pleasantville. Count me in.

Check out the promo stills in the gallery below. All eight episodes of 11.22.63 will be streaming on Hulu February 15th.
