Weird West Delay Pushes the Western Immersive Sim to March 2022

Wolfeye Studios and Devolver Digital’s gun-slinging immersive sim, Weird West, has received a delay to March 31, 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Weird West was originally given a January 11 release date alongside a gameplay deep dive in October. Wolfeye published a video to help explain the delay today, with Raphaël Colantonio promising it’ll be worth the wait. He says Weird West is “not quite ready yet,” with just a few extra details that need more time for polishing.

“We have a long history of making immersive sims, and we all know how great those games can be when it all comes together,” Colantonio said. “Every player has their own experience, and there are so many things that can happen. Some of those things can be great, and some things can not be so great, so we want to deliver the best experience as possible.”

Devolver shared its own statement regarding the Weird West release date delay (via Gematsu):

Devolver Digital and Wolfeye Studios today announced that in order to make Weird West the most immersive and well, weird, journey through the west as possible, the game will now be launching across PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on March 31, 2022. Weird West is an impressively deep mix of action RPG and immersive sim elements built on the Wolfeye team’s experience with Dishonored and Prey. Early feedback is fantastic but, as is the case with any immersive sim, there are a lot of variables that can lead to unintended consequences. More time is needed to deliver an experience that the community expects from Wolfeye and Devolver. The team understands that this might be a disappointment to folks, but want to ensure that the game they’ve worked on for years is launched in the best form possible.
