Sons off the Forest is available now on PC, and you may be wondering if it’s available on such consoles as PlayStation 4 (PS4), PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S. If you are, here’s the answer.
Is Sons of the Forest on PS4, PS5, or Xbox?
Sons of the Forest is not on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S, and developer Endnight Games hasn’t announced a console release as yet. Could they be working on a console port behind closed doors? It’s possible, but Sons of the Forest has now exited Steam Early Access, and there’s still no news.
Sons of the Forest is actually a sequel to 2014’s The Forest. The original The Forest did eventually come to PS4 after spending several years in Steam Early Access on PC. It has, to this day, still completely skipped Xbox, and it’s doubtful Endnight is going to port the original at this late stage.
Will Sons of the Forest Ever Release on Console?
Ultimately, it’s possible that Sons of the Forest will end up PS4, PS5, and Xbox later, as there are certainly enough would-be players. When Sons of the Forest launched into Steam Early Access, so many people tried to buy it that it all but broke the storefront.
There’s a lot of work involved in porting games to other platforms. The original The Forest exited Steam Early Access in April 2018, but it didn’t land on PS4 until November 2018, a gap of seven months. Sons left Steam Early Access in February, so if we factor in that, it may arrive on consoles this September.
However, Endnight and Sony announced the release three months prior, so you should also look out for an announcement in July. It’s very unlikely that Sons of the Forest is just going to shadowdrop onto consoles. But that’s all speculation – there’s no official word as of yet.
I’d expect it to skip the last-gen consoles and go straight to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, taking advantage of the power of those platforms.
So, no, Sons of the Forest isn’t on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S, and its developer, Endnight Games, has yet to announce any plans to port it to consoles.
