Resident Evil 4 remake M-Two Capcom 2023 release date development overhaul

Unannounced Resident Evil 4 Remake Reportedly Overhauled, May Not Release Till 2023

According to VGC’s sources, Capcom has made significant changes to its currently unannounced remake of Resident Evil 4. Studio M-Two, who previously had a hand in 2020’s remake of Resident Evil 3, reportedly now has “significantly reduced” involvement in the project, and mainline Resident Evil studio Capcom Division 1 is taking over.

The reasoning for this change is that Capcom and M-Two reportedly have had disagreements regarding the direction of the Resident Evil 4 remake. Some fans were disappointed with how last year’s Resident Evil 3 left out notable parts of the original. As a result, M-Two wanted the remake of Resident Evil 4 to be more faithful to the original game.

Capcom, meanwhile, wanted to go in the opposite direction, using the original’s story and gameplay elements more as inspiration to provide a unique spin on the remake. This shift has partially rebooted the project and could delay its release to 2023. However, people familiar with the project noted that both Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes went through similar changes during production.

In the meantime, Capcom announced yesterday that the latest mainline entry in the franchise, Resident Evil Village, will launch on May 7 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S. The game’s Maiden demo is now available to try out on PlayStation 5.
