Columbia Pictures in Talks for Metal Gear Movie

Sony Pictures division Columbia Pictures in negotiations with Konami to make Metal Gear movie.

Following last week’s confirmation that Sony Pictures would be getting the rights for a film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid, Columbia Pictures, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures, is negotiating with Konami Digital Entertainment to produce the movie.

The planned staff includes Producer Michael De Luca (Ghost Rider, Rush Hour 2), Sony Producer Doug Belgrad (Grudge 2), Producer Sam Dickerman, and Executive Producers Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear) and Rick Privman (Siren). Both Privman and Kojima have been longstanding members of Konami, with Privman just recently joining Sony Pictures as a producer for another game-based film, Siren, and managing his own licensing company, JEA.

Belgrad complimented the Metal Gear franchise, saying it is “loaded with well-developed, intriguing characters and (is) one of the first games to ever use cinematic tools in its storytelling.”
