The World Series of Video Games announced today that it has signed a deal with CBS Sports, bringing to air extensive coverage of its 2007 season.

CBS Sports reaches 111 million homes in the United States alone, solidifying the World Series of Video Games (WSVG) as the most accessible and widely-distributed videogame competition in America.

The 2007 broadcast coverage of the WSVG will take place in four separate hour-long programs, featuring the three major US events, as well as the finals, to be held in Sweden. Each episode will include segments on the competitors, as well as footage of the games in competition, including Activisions’s Guitar Hero 2 and EA Sports Fight Night Round 3.

“We’re delighted to work with the World Series of Video Games to bring competitive video games to a wide audience as part of our award-winning sports coverage,” said Rob Correa, senior vice president of programming for CBS Sports. “With popular titles that broaden the appeal of competitive gaming, we think this will be the year that television broadcasting of video games really takes off.”

The 2006 WSVG attracted over 90,000 attendees, and was also covered by CBS. The event produced over 250 hours of broadband video, as well as 20 hours of broadcast programming.

CBS coverage of the 2007 World Series of Video Games will feature these televised events:

July 29: June 21-24 tournament in Louisville, Kentucky

August 19: July 5-8 tournament in Dallas, Texas

November 17: October 18-21 tournament in Los Angeles, California
December 15: WSVG Finals, November 29-December 2 in Jönköping, Sweden
