Electronic Arts and Crytek have announced a release date for the highly-anticipated upcoming FPS Crysis.

Crysis is expected to be a technologically advanced shooter built around high-end DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 visuals. According to the developer, the game will offer open-ended gameplay and a wide range of customization options, allowing for numerous options and approaches to the game.

Cevat Yerli, Crytek’s President and CEO, said, “Crytek is constantly striving to push the boundaries of both game design and technology, while maintaining quality at the highest bar. We’re thankful to our fans for their support and patience, and we’re excited to bring them Crysis this year. It’s going to be worth the wait.”

Although it follows up Crytek’s 2004 release Far Cry and offers similar play styles, it is not a sequel; Crysis takes place in an entirely new setting and story. A special edition of the game has been announced, but no details on the contents have been released. Crysis is scheduled to ship in North America on November 16.
