Nintendo Power Goes to the Boys

As what is no doubt part of its restructuring of their marketing department, Nintendo is handing off Nintendo Power magazine to Future US. First published in 1988, the magazine has been produced internally for nearly twenty years. As of December 2007 however, Future US will take over the print magazine and the web site.

The move is intended to broaden the circulation of Nintendo Power and provide added value to Nintendo enthusiasts. Given that the press release refers to Future US as the “country’s premiere young men’s media company” you have to wonder if the magazine will truly attempt to provide value to all the Nintendo enthusiasts, or just the core demographic that most gaming magazines continue to focus on.

Future US also publishes Official Xbox Magazine, Official Sony PlayStation Magazine and PC Gamer, among others. They also publish the GamesRadar and Next Generation websites.
