Turok Team-Killing Achievement Comes Under Scrutiny

Following numerous complaints, the developers of the upcoming Turok videogame are considering a patch to remove an achievement that encourages team killing in multiplayer games.

CVG reports that the achievement, called Grab Bag, requires players to kill at least one creature, one enemy, one teammate and themselves in the same round of a public match. The presence of the team killing component has apparently resulted in numerous players disrupting public games with intentional, repeated team killing as they attempt to gain the achievement.

“What we found was that players playing their first match in Turok – almost every player – was (accidentally) killing himself, a teammate and an enemy with a grenade or Stick Bomb gun and so we thought, ‘Hey, we should give them an achievement for that” as kind of a joke,’ said Josh Holmes, Vice President of Turok developer Propaganda Games. But many players have not been amused by the antics of those attempting to collect it.

“We’ve read some of the concerns that were described online, and maybe we underestimated the length to which so-called “achievement whores” will go to (in order to) get their achievements,” Holmes added. “We are currently looking at readying a patch for solution for it if it does become an issue when the game releases.”

Propaganda’s Turok, the latest entry in the long-running franchise, is slated for release in February 2008, for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
