Wrath of the Lich King in Late 08?

Wrath of the Lich King, the long-awaited second expansion to Blizzard’s World of Warcraft MMOG, has been tapped by Vivendi for release in the second half of 2008.

The company made note of the release target in its earnings report for the first quarter of 2008. In the report, Vivendi claimed year-on-year comparisons were skewed because of the release of The Burning Crusade in the previous fiscal. “A comparison of the first quarters of 2007 and 2008 is not representative because the first quarter of 2007 included the hugely successful release of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade,” the report said.

Blizzard Entertainment’s second expansion, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2008. Consequently, Vivendi Games’ revenues for the first quarter of 2008 are 24.1 percent lower (-18.2 percent on a constant currency basis) when compared to the same period last year.”

When contacted for confirmation by Eurogamer, however, a Blizzard spokesman said the company had not yet issued a release date, and would neither confirm nor deny the statement.
