Ultimate Ninja Storm Dev Calls Sixaxis “Useless”

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm producer Hitoshi Matsuyama may have ruffled some feathers at the Games Convention last week when he declared Sony’s motion sensing Sixaxis controller “useless.”

“We’re not supporting Trophies,” Matsuyama told Gamer.tm through a translator. “And before you ask, we’re not supporting Sixaxis. It’s useless.” To emphasize the point, he then waved a Sixaxis controller around “in a jocular manner.”

I suppose it’s fair to ask whether Matsuyama meant the Sixaxis controller is useless for Ultimate Ninja Storm, or useless in general. He didn’t say, but Ultimate Ninja Storm will apparently feature a lot of platform and beat-em-up gameplay, genres which aren’t terribly well-suited to motion-sensing controls. I’m also unsure as to why anyone would care, since Sony announced earlier in the year that sales of the Sixaxis are expected to cease by the end of 2008.

On the other hand, who am I to question a Real Ultimate Power Ninja Storm? Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is scheduled for release in fall 2008, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
