Flux Capacitor Technology Coming to Burnout Paradise

Criterion slips off the toilet, bashes its head on the sink and announces the Legendary Cars Pack for Burnout Paradise.

Criterion Games producer, Jeremy Chubb, stopped by the official PlayStation Blog to announce the latest round of downloadable content for crash-heavy racer, Burnout Paradise: the Legendary Cars Pack. The team, which is coming off the recent success of its free motorcycle pack (a first for the series), seems to be taking the “legendary” moniker seriously, as the first car announced is none other than the most famous time-traveling DeLorean DMC-12 ever.

Or, as they like to call it, the Jansen 88 Special.

“This classic 1980’s styled silver sports car is based on the fan-favorite Jansen P12,” explains Chubbs, “but we’ve made a few interesting modifications.”

The Jansen 88 Special features just about everything one would expect from a 1.21 Jigowatt DeLorean powered by a Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor. When the boost gauge is filled, activating it emits a trail of flames from its back wheels, which should put you well above 88 miles per hour. As an extra trick, clicking the L3 button causes the 88 Special to tuck in its wheels and go into hover mode. The only thing missing from Paradise now is a gang of Libiyan terrorists hunting you down.

The Jansen 88 Special is the first of four cars Criterion will be making available in its Legendary Cars Pack, with the other three being the Cavalry Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and the GT Nighthawk. The content will be made available in both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Burnout Paradise and is due for release sometime in 2009.
