Sandworm Battles Reaper in New Mass Effect 3 Trailer

Shepard gets help with his Reaper problem from an unexpected quarter.

If you’ve ever had to fight a giant robot – and I’d imagine that many of you have – chances are you’d have liked to be able to even the score a little. Sometimes that means getting a giant robot of your own and other times it means enlisting the help of giant desert worms with a taste for ancient space metal.

In the new trailer for Mass Effect 3, Shepard and his team are squaring off against a Reaper. There’s not a great deal that Shepard can do to stop his enormous foe, not until an equally enormous stroke of luck comes his way in the guise of a gargantuan worm-like desert monster. While this is probably just some fauna indigenous to the planet that Shepard is on, I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’s the first joint operation of the newly forged Human/Sandworm alliance.

There’s not a huge amount more that you can glean from the trailer, other than the fact that Shepard can actually run now and that BioWare has some suitably grand setpieces planned for the final game in the trilogy.

Mass Effect 3 comes out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 6th.
