North Korea Blasts US With ‘We Are The World’ Missiles

You’ll marvel at these special effects, courtesy of the North Korean propaganda department.

As cheerful pop blithers away in the background, a sleeping North Korean spaceman dreams of the day he can cruise over the planet, look down on the adoring world, and blow up the bits he doesn’t like. Presumably North Korea intends to make a brighter day, but apparently love isn’t all it needs.

The video comes courtesy of Uriminzokkiri (‘Our Nation’), North Korea’s propaganda website. Our Nation is part of North Korea’s media blitz – it has Twitter and Facebook accounts too – launched in 2010 to improve North Korea’s image. “Despite attempts by imperialists to isolate and crush us,” reads one caption in the video, “never will anyone be able to stop the people marching towards a final victory.”

This venture into dreamland comes as North Korea gears itself up for its latest nuclear test, and may have been intended as a response to the threat of sanctions that the UN security council intends to impose, should it go ahead with its plans. North Korea’s rocket launches have met with mixed success in the past; Kwangmyŏngsŏng-3 splashed down in the Yellow Sea in April 2012, but Kwangmyŏngsŏng-3 Unit 2’s December 2012 launch was a partial success, inasmuch as it did reach orbit.
