Back in the 2010s, Tom Cruise made two surprisingly good mid-level action thrillers based on the wildly successful Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child. While the films are strong, fans of Jack Reacher balked at the casting of Cruise, who is most definitely not the slab of muscular man meat that Reacher is described as in the novels. The upcoming Jack Reacher TV series at Amazon, just called Reacher, is correcting that, as the new trailer is happy to show.
Alan Ritchson, who plays Jack Reacher, is a very large, very solid man, and it appears his take on the character will be a little more flippant than Cruise’s but still nearly as invincible as he barrels his way through a small-town murder by beating up basically everyone he comes in contact with that isn’t a police officer. The show is based on the first book in the series, Killing Floor, in which Reacher, a retired military police officer with a serious background in ass-kicking, is accused of being a murderer and must clear his own name while solving the case. He’ll do so not only with his wits but a lot of smooth lines and broken bones, per the Reacher trailer from Amazon.
The Jack Reacher Amazon TV series cast includes Malcolm Goodwin, who stars as Chief Detective Oscar Finlay, and Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe Conklin, a local police officer who teams up with Reacher and may or may not be very impressed by his impossible number of abs. Also appearing in the show are Chris Webster, Hugh Thompson, Maria Sten, Harvey Guillén, Kristin Kreuk, Currie Graham, Marc Bendavid, Willie C. Carpenter, Maxwell Jenkins, and Bruce McGill. Nick Santora, who worked on Prison Break, is writing and showrunning the series.
Reacher will premiere on Amazon Prime on February 4, 2022.
