Anthem Redesign core gameplay loop reinvention

Anthem Getting a ‘Long-Term Redesign,’ Reinventing Its Gameplay

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

With rumors swirling around the future of the game, BioWare’s Casey Hudson has given an update on what will happen to AnthemĀ on their official blog. Hudson said that he’s proud of what the team accomplished withĀ the action role-playing game but that both BioWare and players wanted more from it. As such, they are going to be working on a “longer-term redesign of the experience” rather than an update or expansion in order to fix its many issues.

Hudson says that the team at BioWare will be looking to “reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards” while retainingĀ Anthem‘s scale and combat complexity. “We’ll be doing something we’d like to have done more of the first time around — giving a focused team the time to test and iterate, focusing on gameplay first.”

Current players ofĀ Anthem won’t see much of a difference in the short-term, though. Hudson says that the game will continue to be available in its current form, although they are moving away from their initial plan of offering up seasons of content. “We’ll keep the game going with events, store refreshes, and revisiting past seasonal and cataclysm content – starting with our anniversary towards the end of the month,” stated Hudson.

Hudson finished off his letter to the fans by thanking them for their support and stating that sometimes they get it right, but other times they miss when trying to create a new world. “I look forward to working together with your involvement and feedback towards the best possible future forĀ Anthem.” This redesign may indeed be the best thing for the title’s future.
