Battlefield 2042 will add a game mode called Battlefield: Portal that allows players to engage with content made by the community. The mode was revealed during EA Play Live 2021 and comes from Rippled Effect Studios, previously known as DICE LA. The community-driven experience was described as one of Battlefield 2042‘s key gameplay pillars and is something that the DICE team has been interested in exploring for more than a decade.

Vehicles, infantry, tech, and maps from every era of Battlefield can be seen in the Battlefield: Portal cinematic footage, meaning players will have the freedom to mix and match from games like the Battlefield: Bad Company series, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 2042, and more. Ripple Effect general manager Christian Grass joined the show to explain that more is coming post-launch, adding that players will have access to a suite of customizations and tools, offering expansive personalization. You can see your first look at the new mode in the reveal trailer below.

Battlefield 2042 was revealed earlier this year as a multiplayer-only addition to DICE and EA’s large-scale warfare FPS series. Along with bigger battles than ever (on current-gen consoles), the near-future game adds weather elements to shake up the battlefield. You can see some of the game’s new features in action in Battlefield 2042’s debut gameplay trailer.

Battlefield 2042 launches on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S on October 22, 2021. Stay tuned for more updates before the game launches and additional information from today’s EA Play Live show. Until then, you can watch the entire presentation below.
