Zangetsu is the protagonist again, and he can learn new abilities as he progresses through the game. He also has three new playable allies. Dominique is a spear-wielding exorcist who specializes in healing and can bounce on enemies to reach high places. Robert is a former soldier who uses a musket for long-range attacks and can lie prone to avoid attacks as well as grab onto walls. The last new character is Hachi, who is a Welsh Corgi dog that was experimented on to operate a giant mech suit. Hachi can navigate through obstacles and hazardous terrain such as spike pits.

These four characters can be switched between in real time in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2, and their abilities can be used to discover hidden secrets and collectibles throughout the game. Additionally, two difficulty modes will be implemented: Veteran and Casual. Veteran difficulty provides the traditional Bloodstained experience and causes players to get knocked back when hit. The mechanic isn’t present in Casual mode, which will also include unlimited lives.

No release date has been announced yet, but Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 is “coming soon” to PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam.
