Electronic Arts has announced that Brett Favre will be featured on the cover of Madden NFL 09, the 20th anniversary of one of the best-selling and longest-running videogame franchises of all time.
The former Green Bay Packers legend and future Hall of Famer is the NFL’s only three-time Most Valuable Player, and holds NFL records as the league’s all-time leader in touchdowns, completions, attempts, yards and wins. His 17-year career, which also saw him set a record for most consecutive starts by an NFL quarterback with 253, ended with his retirement in 2007.
“Madden NFL Football and Brett Favre are sports icons who have set the standard and revolutionized their positions within their respective genres,” said Madden NFL Executive Producer Dale Jackson. “Brett Favre is a perfect fit for the Madden NFL 09 cover, as he epitomizes everything the franchise has stood for the past 20 years – longevity, excellence and a love of football.”
The newest Madden NFL will include over 85 new features and enhancements for all new levels of authenticity and gameplay depth, including a “holographic environment” Virtual Trainer mode that will use quick, stylized drills to teach players simple concepts about football and how to use the game’s controls, and a continual assessment of the player’s performance that will let the game adapt itself to provide a custom experience for players of every level.
Authentic play-by-play and color commentary from Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond, graphical enhancements including realistic grass, weather effects and improved player models, online leagues with stat tracking, trades and flexible scheduling options and numerous other improvements will round out the Madden NFL 09 experience.
Madden NFL 09 is being developed by EA Tiburon for the Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS and PSP, and ships across North America on August 12. For more information, go to Madden09.com.
