Bundle of Holding’s Final Halloween Deal Summons Cthulhu

Cthulhu 101 Cover

Bundle of Holding’s latest horror RPG deal is distinctly Lovecraftian, covering everything from historical settings to eldritch-inspired tarot cards.

After the 19 ebooks included with Bundle of Holding’s recent Halloween compilations, you might be forgiven for believing they covered all of the tabletop horror genres out there. You’d be mistaken. There’s still one major figure in roleplaying that has yet to make an appearance, and Bundle of Holding was saving it for last. We’ll give you some hints: It’s large, ancient, drives those who look upon it to insanity, and when the stars are right it will wreak havoc on humanity. If you’re familiar with HP Lovecraft, you’ll know I’m talking about the Great Cthulhu, whose Mythos is represented across nine ebooks this week in the “Bundle of Tentacles”.

If you’ve somehow never heard of Cthulhu before, then Kenneth Hite’s Cthulhu 101 and Dubious Shards provide the necessary background information for beginners and gamemasters respectively. Once you’ve perused those sanity-destroying texts, Hite’s Trail of Cthulhu Player’s Guide drops players into the role of investigators attempting to solve the mysteries of the Cthulhu Mythos, risking their own sanity in the process. If you’re looking for a unique setting for your game, Cthulhu Britannica: Shadows Over Scotland is a massive, 288-page tome detailing the intricacies of 1920s Scotland with a Lovecraftian twist.

If you’re still willing to risk your sanity and wallet by donating above the average, you’ll find another four sanity-destroying products. Cthulhu Britannica: Folklore combines the Cthulhu Mythos with the fairies, giants, and witches of English folk traditions. Trail of Cthulhu: Shadows Over Filmland offers a similar mixture between Lovecraft and the monsters of 1930s cinema, including Dracula himself. Dark Streets is a Lovecraft-inspired supplement for the included Renaissance Deluxe game, telling a story of London’s first police force in 1749. Eldritch Skies drops alternate history in favor of science fiction, featuring a spacefaring humanity 100 years after the events of Call of Cthulhu. Finally, Kenneth Hite returns to end the set with Tarot of Cthulhu: Major Arcana, a printable deck of Mythos-inspired tarot cards for in-game fortune-telling.

As always, customers should expect additional ebooks to be added to the Bundle of Tentacles as the week progresses. You’ve got another 3 days to decide whether this deal is right for you, although between the DRM-free content and forwarded donations to the Alzheimer’s Assocation and Cancer Research UK, how can you go wrong? Other than losing your sanity and being eaten by a shoggoth, naturally.
