Treyarch has released a new trailer detailing the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode. It has a few new additions, while also revisiting some of the elements from previous entries in the series.

The story within Zombies is called Die Maschine, which pays homage to one of the mode’s most famous maps, Nacht der Untoten. At the end of Black Ops IV, the protagonists in that game’s Zombies story sacrificed themselves to shut down the multiverse, aiming to create a world where zombies didn’t exist. However, it looks like the zombies are back somehow.

In the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies universe, the player is part of Requiem, a CIA-backed international response team. A Russian rival, called the Omega Group, will stand in the way as they are also interested in harnessing unknown energy.

The Pack-a-Punch machine, Mystery Box, and power-up drops make a return here. While the gameplay still retains its classic round-based structure, there are some new additions too. Multiplayer gun progression is entirely connected, meaning players can bring in their favorite weapons from the start in Zombies instead of beginning with the pistol.

Players now have the option to call an Exfil helicopter to end the current play session. Before, the only way to end the session was to simply die and that was that. Once the chopper is called in, players must survive a few more rounds with zombies “dialed up to 11” before it arrives. Successfully evacuating provides players with rewards.

Full cross-generation and cross-platform play are supported for Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode. Additional postgame content will be added for free, and progression systems are tied to a battle pass.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (plus Zombies) releases on Nov. 13 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S.
