Dev Says Uncharted 4 Will Have 10X More Explorable Space Than Prior Entries

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

“With larger worlds comes larger possibilities.”

In the second “making of” video for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, called “Pushing Technical Boundaries,” Naughty Dog developers discuss how the game will be bigger and more detailed than any prior entry, thanks to the power of the PlayStation 4.

“We have bigger levels than we’ve ever had before,” Technical Art Director Teagan Morrison said. “Maybe ten times the size, at least, of explorable space.”

The team says that one of the challenges that the game’s increased size presented involved making the pacing feel “just as intense as when things have been more linear.”

“With larger worlds comes larger possibilities,” said audio lead Phil Kovats, “and larger possibilities usually means more detail. In fact that’s one of the things that we’re really shooting for in this game is a higher level of detail on the PlayStation 4 and the experience for our gamers.”

It’s an interesting video that takes you behind the scenes as we await the May 10 release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The first video in the “making of” series, titled “The Evolution of a Franchise,” released last week and covered – you guessed it – how the series has evolved over the years.
