E3 2010: Gran Turismo 5 Gets Desperately Needed Release Date

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

Get that musty racing gear out of the closet; Gran Turismo 5 has a release date at last.

Now that we’re all old, gray, and moldy, Sony has finally announced the release date for the long-awaited Gran Turimso 5 for the PlayStation 3. At Sony’s E3 2010 press conference, the news was dropped that Gran Turismo 5 will screech out of the gates on November 2, 2010.

Yes, that’s 2010, not 2011, 2012, or 3010. Gran Turismo 5 had been pushed back for years after first being announced in 2006. A scant four-and-a-half years later, it’ll finally see the light of day. The delay has apparently been due to a desire for perfection.

The game will reportedly include 950+ cars and an extensive online component. There’s also going to be a collector’s edition sold for $99.99 that will contain a diecast Nissan GT-R Spec V, 300-page guide (which for a game like Gran Turismo can’t be more useful), key chain, DLC voucher for new cars, and a vial of Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi’s blood and sweat. I lied about the key chain.

The idea of Gran Turismo 5 actually being released was almost becoming on the level of something like Duke Nukem Forever. There was never really any doubt in my mind, but it was taking a really long time. Will its time in the garage make it the ultimate racing experience we all anticipate at this point?
