Freaks and Geeks Reimagined as Interactive Video Series

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

The cult TV show Freaks and Geeks has been redone as a choose-your-own-adventure game.

Freaks and Geeks was one of those shows that met a tragic end in an early cancellation. A teen comedy-drama, the show was set in 1980 and followed two different social groups in high school, the freaks and the geeks. Over a decade after its run on TV, the cult show has been remade as an interactive video series on YouTube by TheFineBros, best known for their React series (Kids React, Teens React, etc.).

The game only has the “Freaks” version out now, and the “Geeks” version is in the works. When choosing the “Freaks” side, you play as Lindsay as she starts to hang out with the kids who smoke and cut class. The game follows the plot of the show loosely and gives the player the option of diverging from the original narrative. Each choice directs you to a new video. You can control whether Lindsay stays with the freaks or goes back to being a mathlete.

The TV show explores self-identity, focusing mostly on the two children of the Weir family. Lindsay becomes friends with the freaks and battles with her parents as her new self-image causes friction in the family while her brother Sam and his friends the geeks try to fit in at school.

Freaks and Geeks originally aired in 1999-2000 and starred many well-known actors today, such as James Franco, Jason Segel, and Seth Rogen.
