Freeze Mob Overruns Times Square With Lightsabers

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

How do you make a Star Wars freeze mob extra-cool? Fill it with some great poses and costumes, and make sure that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere in sight.

When it comes to launch events for Star Wars: The Old Republic, staging a giant battle between the Jedi and the Sith in Times Square is a pretty cool way to kick things off. That said, folks walking through the area got a little something extra when said fight scene turned into a massive freeze mob that was jam-packed with Force powers and lightsabers.

As you can see in the video, things start off pretty cool with some beautifully-costumed Sith and Jedi warriors squaring off in Times Square. As the first strike lands, each dueling pair freezes in place, striking some pretty epic poses. But that’s not the best part: A crowd of 100 fans joins in on the action out, also freeing in place.

I would have loved to be a part of this (or even see it in person). While The Old Republic has a huge amount of hype surrounding it, the fact that the marketing folks behind the game were willing to engage in something like this is pretty great.
