Guinness Announces Gaming Record Book

Gaming gets its own record book from Guinness World Records.

Guinness World Records announced a new edition of its popular record book series dedicated solely to gaming achievements. Titled Guinness World Records: Videogame Edition 2008, the testament to gaming records will include statistics such as who is the highest-earning professional gamer, the highest score achieved and the best selling console. A team of industry experts is already being assembled to help Guinness in its video game fact collecting. The first showing will take place at the London Book Fair, which is hosted between April 16 and 18.

Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, commented on the launch of a series dedicated to gaming. “We reintroduced videogaming world records to our annual book a few years ago, and it’s proved to be one of the most popular sections with our core readers. It makes sense, therefore, to dedicate an entire annual to the subject. Our record researchers are already scouring the videogaming community for superlatives, and the vast number of games, gamers, developers and platforms mean that we have an incredible pool of content to dip into each year. It’s going to be a very exciting project.”

GamesIndustry.biz editor Ellie Gibson is one of the many consultants hired by Guinness to assemble information. “The news that Guinness World Records has decided to produce a book devoted to games is great for both gamers and the industry. It’s another boost for the profile of gaming, and I’m very much looking forward to getting started.”
