Break out the bandanna and the cigarettes: Hideo Kojima will be in San Diego next weekend for SD Comic-Con 2010, and he will be judging your cosplay.
You know, I actually have a lot of respect for talented cosplayers. Sure, when it’s done poorly it’s usually cringe-worthy and embarrassing … but when it’s done well, it can be really, really cool. You’ll probably find more than a few of the talented cosplayers in question at the big conventions like San Diego Comic-Con, which is why noted game designer Hideo Kojima will be on hand next weekend to pass judgment on all that he sees. Provided that what he sees is cosplay, that is.
According to the official Konami Twitter account, Kojima will be at the Marriott on Friday (July 23rd) from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, “signing, & judging cosplay.” Which means that if you’ve always wanted to approach the Metal Gear Solid creator while dressed as the Cyborg Ninja and get him to sign your copy of MGS4, this is your chance.
This isn’t the first fan contest that Kojima has judged, either. He was one of three celebrity judges for a Twilight Fan Art contest last November. From that, we can conclude that your chances of him liking your costume are probably higher if you show up dressed as Edward Cullen in Raiden’s sneaking suit.
I can’t help but think that it would be infinitely more spectacular if Konami brought in Solid Snake’s voice actor David Hayter to echo everything that Kojima said. Just think about it: “I think your costume is not very good.” “Not very good?!” “I rate this a four out of five.” “Four out of five?!“
Yeah, it’d be worth attending Comic-Con just for that.
