Knights of the Old Republic Remake Is in Development, Says Report

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic will return in the form of a remake or reimagining according to a report from Cinelinx. They cite two independent sources who say that a new Knights of the Old Republic game is in development.

While each source says the Star Wars role-playing series will return, they offer information that differs in some ways. One source says the new game is a remake that has been rumored in the past, while the other claims the game is more of a “reimagining” or “’sequel’ of sorts” that would “integrate elements from the first two games in order to bring certain things into the current Star Wars canon.”

In terms of who developer EA has working on Knights of the Old Republic or a timeline for the project, the report has no further details. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see if this alleged remake ever sees the light of day.

In 2015, Cinelinx said three sources confirmed that an HD remake for Knights of the Old Republic was in development, though EA reportedly put the project “on the back burner” around one year later. The current project could be a revival of that. Take note that the sources that brought this information to light in 2015 are not the same sources of today’s news.

In April of last year, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy vaguely said that the studio was “developing” something related to Knights of the Old Republic for film or television, but studios develop lots of things that don’t ever enter active development. At present, everything is in flux.
