BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL – Complete Faction Guide

Introduction

The Brotherhood of Steel is a faction lead by Elder Maxson that can initially be found by traveling to the police station in Cambridge. They operate out of a massive airship called the Prydwen from which smaller vessels called Vertibirds can be launched to engage in aerial assaults or to transport Brotherhood troops across great distances. Members of this faction are often paranoid and distrustful, which can make conversations more difficult to navigate and friends/teammates are more likely to become your next assassination target.

Custom Item – Righteous Authority

After completing the Call to Arms quest, you will receive a modified laser rifle called Righteous Authority from Paladin Danse. This weapon has been custom crafted to deal double the normal amount of critical hit damage and increases the rate at which the critical meter replenishes by 15%.

Quest: Call to Arms

After completing the Fire Support quest, speak with Danse inside the police station to stock up on supplies before following him on his journey across the wasteland and equip a scoped rifle to zoom in on the first group of Raiders you see gathered beneath a bridge in the distance ahead.

Work as a team with Danse to clear the Raiders from your path on and continue following him to reach the next section of road ahead that’s on an incline, then swap your current primary weapon out for one that’s effective at close-range and climb to the top of the hill to encounter a pack of Wild Mongrels.

Start walking backwards as soon as the Mongrels appear and maneuver yourself directly in front of the ones running straight towards you so that their heads become the most prominent targets, then open fire at close-range to inflict significant damage until all the dogs have been put down.

Continue following Danse up the road ahead to discover ArcJet Systems and speak with him outside the front doors to enter the building, then converse again inside a small lab room to proceed forward through the facility and reach the area with a locked door that can be opened by using the terminals on the right.

There are two options for getting the door open. Advanced hackers will be able to break into the Lab Control Terminal and unlock it with a few button clicks. Everyone else will have to first use the Lab Analyst’s Terminal to uncover the designated password and then enter it into the Lab Control Terminal to unlock the doors.

Remain standing by the computer terminal you just used and equip an automatic weapon before the first wave of enemies arrive, then open fire on the incoming Synth as soon as they appear in the doorway and take cover behind the nearby desk or support beams if necessary.

Defeat the first group of Synth to proceed into the room you unlocked and equip a close-range weapon to clear out the enemies emerging from the tunnel on the right, then let Danse enter the next open area ahead without you and wait for him to eliminate as many threats as possible on his own until it becomes necessary to put yourself at risk again.

Help Danse finish clearing the room to continue following him through theArcJet Systems building and remain right behind him until he reaches the corridor protected by a ceiling turret, then enter the door on the left to cut forward through an area adjacent to the hallway and open the next door on the right to either destroy the automated gun yourself or cause a distraction that leads to it being destroyed.

Let Danse pass ahead of you so that the ceiling turret around the next corner zeroes in on him first, then move out slowly from behind the wall to get a visual on the device and open fire on it repeatedly in tandem with your partner until it explodes or you’re forced to step back into cover.

Follow Danse to locate the disabled elevator door and enter the western corridor to proceed towards the current objective marker, then hack into the indicated Facilities Terminal to restore auxiliary power and press the Engine Start button in the adjacent room to incinerate the Synths on the other side of the glass.

Return to Danse’s location, but remain within the connecting hallway that looks into the room as a means of protecting yourself from both sides and help finish clearing the area by firing on Synth that run past the open doorway.

Make your way back to the elevator to enter the car and ascend to the next floor above, then follow Danse up the stairs to fight your way past another group of Synth in the control room and approach the indicated corpse to acquire the Deep Range Transmitter.

Use the indicated elevator to exit the building and speak with Danse to receive the Righteous Authority laser rifle.

Joining the Brotherhood

You will be given two opportunities to join the Brotherhood. The first offer will come upon completion of the Fire Support quest, which can be declined without consequence. If you decide to turn them down or have skipped the aforementioned mission altogether, a second chance at membership will become available later on in the game outside Fort Hagen when a quest called Reveille will suddenly become active. The waypoint markers for this alternate mission will eventually lead you back to the police station where the Fire Support quest occurs and a second offer to join the Brotherhood will be extended upon completing the remaining objectives

Quest: Fire Support

To start this quest, you will need to travel to Cambridge and listen to Military Frequency AF95 on your radio to hear about the attack on the police station.

Approach the Cambridge police station’s location from the west to encounter the soldiers patrolling the front of the building and equip a close-range weapon before standing on the steps with your back to the entrance, then open fire on any Feral Ghouls that come charging towards you from straight ahead or from the right.

Cover whichever entry point the Ghouls are using that is currently being ignored by the ally soldier standing in front of you and help him out whenever the wave he is fending off becomes to large or if one of the invading enemies manages to slip past his position.

Use V.A.T. to help thin out the larger groups before they manage to get too close to the police station entrance and take out the ones who reach the front steps with well-placed melee strikes, then finish clearing the area to successfully defend it and speak with Danse to accept his offer to join the Brotherhood of Steel.

Quest: Reveille

To access this quest, you will need to have skipped the Fire Support mission available at Cambridge or declined the offer to join the Brotherhood after completing said mission.

Upon exiting Fort Hagen after completing the Reunions quest, look to the airships in the sky above to activate Revielle and travel towards the next objective marker that appears to reach the Boston Airport.

Speak with Knight outside the gates of the Brotherhood hideout to receive a new waypoint and travel to Cambridge to locate the local police station, then approach the building from the west to encounter the soldiers patrolling out front and equip a close-range weapon before standing on the steps with your back to the entrance.

Cover whichever entry point the Ghouls are using that is currently being ignored by the ally soldier standing in front of you and help him out whenever the wave he is fending off becomes to large or if one of the invading enemies manages to slip past his position.

Use V.A.T.S. to help thin out the larger groups before they manage to get too close to the police station entrance and take out the ones who reach the front steps with well-placed melee strikes, then finish clearing the area to successfully defend it and speak with Danse to accept his offer to join the Brotherhood of Steel.

Quests: Semper Invicta / Shadow of Steel / Tour of Duty

Once you’ve joined and proven yourself to the Brotherhood of Steel, the next three quests will appear as simple errands that need to be accomplished before progressing forward as a member of this faction.

During Semper Invitcta, you will have to clear specific groups of enemies from different locations and travel around the wasteland to retrieve special items needed by your comrades.

The Shadow of Steel mission will have you listen to a speech given by Elder Maxson onboard the Prydwen airship, as well as speak with various high-ranking members of the Brotherhood.

To complete the Tour of Duty quest, you’ll need to meet and speak with four vital members of the Brotherhood: Proctor Ingram, Proctor Quinlan, Knight Captain Cade and Proctor Teagan.

Quest: Show No Mercy

To access this quest, you will need to complete Tour of Duty.

Enter a suit of Power Armor before speaking with Elder Maxson on the flight deck and board the indicated Vertibird Gunship to fly to Fort Strong, then use the mini-gun you’re manning to open fire on the Behemoth patrolling the ruins below and focus on targeting this monster’s head to cause maximum damage during the attack.

As the vertibird circles the area, keep the mini-gun trained on the Behemoth at all times so that it takes consistent damage throughout the assault and don’t stop firing until the monster falls over dead.

When the vertibird starts going in for a landing, aim at the ground directly beneath you to clear out any Super Mutants approaching from below and exit the airship as soon as it touches the ground to immediately duck behind the rusted-over blue truck located nearby.

Use the pickup truck as cover to eliminate the enemies ahead on the right with a long-range weapon and turn around to fend off any additional threats currently being handled by Danse, then look back towards the east to pick off the remaining Super Mutants by employing the use of V.A.T.S. and proceed towards the current objective marker to enter the Fort Strong Armory.

Pick the lock in the back corner to reveal a room occupied by multiple Super Mutants and use V.A.T.S. to score critical hits on the one nearest to you, then back up into the previous area to reload or recover until the enemies start emerging from the open doorway and knock them back with close-range head shots.

Enter the room you just cleared to collect supplies before unlocking the next closest door and access the office on the other side to acquire additional items, then make your down the hallway around the corner to reach the dining room and use a close-range weapon to eliminate the Legendary Super Mutant inside.

Continue exploring the ground floor of the armory to search for supplies before boarding the elevator in the southeast corner of the building and ascend to the second floor to scavenge the next area ahead, then approach the metal railing on the landing that overlooks another room and aim a long-range weapon down towards the blue-lit hallway below on the left.

Use V.A.T.S. to eliminate the Super Mutant before he can escape the corridor and and switch to a close-range weapon before turning to look down the staircase on your right, then open fire into the Mutant Hound’s head and start walking backwards to keep a safe distance until the creature is dead.

Fight your way down the stairs to reach the ground floor and finish clearing the room from behind cover with the help of V.A.T.S., then speak with Danse afterwards to enter a lengthy conversation and report back to Maxson on the airship to complete this quest.

Quest: From Within

To access this quest, you will need to complete the Institutionalized and Show No Mercy missions first.

Travel to the Institute to follow the waypoint marker that leads to Advanced Systems and speak with Doctor Li to try convincing her to work on a project for the Brotherhood. At this point, you will be able to complete this mission in one of two ways.

Method #1: Convince With Words

Ask Dr. Li if she’s happy here, then choose the next series of dialogue options in this order: Brotherhood needs help; Projects left behind; Trust me; We Don’t Lie; Free the Commonwealth.

Once she’s been convinced, report back to Maxson to complete this quest.

Method #2: Convince With Holotape

Ask Li “What would it take?” to learn about Dr. Virgil and tell her “I’ll do it” to accept the task of finding evidence that pertains to his disappearance, then follow the waypoint marker that appears to enter the FEV Lab and walk into the corridor ahead on the right to proceed forward slowly while remaining in a crouched position.

Peer around every new corner ahead to search the ceilings for automated turrets and use a scoped-weapon to destroy each one with the help of V.A.T.S., then hack the next wall terminal to enter the large room lined with tall metal shelves and eliminate the nearby Synth by tossing grenades in their direction before finishing them off with a close-range weapon.

Continue through the corridors ahead by defeating the ceiling turrets in the same manner as before and unlock the door at the end of the hall to access a lab with a single yellow stripe painted across the walls, then approach the terminal on the right to collect the holotape sitting beside it and search the room for any additional items before exiting.

Return to Dr. Li’s location to convince her to help and report back to Maxson afterwards to complete this quest.

Quest: Outside the Wire

To access this quest, you’ll need to complete the Molecular Level mission with the help of the Brotherhood.

Speak with Sturges to obtain the network scanner holotape and travel to the Institute to insert it into the first terminal you can find, then remove the available data before exiting the building and deliver it to Proctor Ingram to complete this quest.

Quest: Liberty Reprimed

After talking to Proctor Ingram in the Boston Airport Ruins, locate Dr. Li to converse with her as well and then speak with Ingram one more time to receive the next waypoint marker.

Follow the marker to locate a hospital that has the required materials inside and approach the site slowly with a scoped-weapon so that you remain at a safe distance while eliminating any hostiles positioned by the front entrance, then equip a close-range weapon before entering the building and activate V.A.T.S. to efficiently remove the first threat that appears.

Explore every available room that moves you in the direction of the current objective marker and look for stairs or elevator doors as a means to travel between floors as well, then continue eliminating the smaller enemies via rapid succession of gunfire at close-range and take down the larger/more resilient ones by occasionally tossing grenades at them as you run backwards while targeting for headshots.

Clear every room that leads towards the current objective marker to retrieve the indicated High-Powered Magnet that’s been hidden somewhere in the hospital and return to Boston Airport to access the indicated Workshop, then construct 4 Electromagnetic Actuators before speaking with Ingram again and travel to Scribe Haylen’s location to converse with her as well.

Mark the bomb storage facility on your map to locate Sentinel Site Prescott and pass through the indicated set of green metal doors to open the security gate inside, then descend the metal ramp way on the left to unlock the room below by pressing the buttons on the wall and proceed down the stairs ahead to open the Blast Door by hacking the terminal at the bottom of the steps.

Move through the open doorway in the corner to descend the next rampway and enter the room at the bottom to hack into the terminal directly on your right, then select Open Blast Door before proceeding down the staircase behind you and follow the adjacent corridors to reach the area at the end.

Use the terminal sitting on the desk to your right to Abort Launch Sequence and proceed through the doors that open to reach the next area below by jumping over the railing, then eliminate the surrounding enemies with a combination of melee strikes and blasts from a close-range weapon.

Enter the circular tunnel adjacent to this room by following the catwalk that runs through it and retreat backwards while executing close-range attacks to eliminate hostiles that run towards you from ahead, then continue following the path to proceed in the direction of the current objective marker and enter the room to the left of the red blast doors at the end to speak with Henri.

There are two ways to handle Henri. You can convince him to hand over his password willingly by speaking favorably in regards to his nuclear god or, if the conversation does not end well, you can kill Henri and his robot with a close-range assault to retrieve the password from the corpse.

Destroy the turret on the nearby desk to safely access the terminal beside it and select Remote Door Control to open the red security gate below, then use this newly-available exit to locate the nuclear stockpile on the other side and approach the rusted yellow machine indicated by the objective marker.

Follow the on-screen prompt that appears to place the Distress Pulser on the machine and return to the previous room to reach the elevator down the hall on your left, then report back to Proctor Ingram to press the indicated button that activates the Liberty Prime robot and speak with Ingram again to complete the quest.

Quest: Blind Betrayal

Speak with Elder Maxson and Proctor Quinlan to follow the latter to a new location where she’ll reveal the next objective’s location, then travel to Listening Post Bravo to power up the elevator inside the base via the wall terminal beside it and ride to the next floor above to locate Danse.

Equip your most powerful melee weapon to sprint towards the slow-moving Protectrons when they aren’t looking and destroy these hostile robots by striking continuously while moving in a continuous circle around them, then enter the cave tunnel ahead on the right to reach the room at the end where Danse is hiding and speak with him to decide your next course of action.

During this conversation, you will be given the choice between killing Danse where he stands or showing him mercy in favor of another plan that could save his life. Whatever dialogue option you select, will determine the manner in which this quest can be completed.

Method #1: Agree to Execute Danse

After making your choice, put Danse down with a head shot to raid his body for Holotags and complete this quest by handing them over to Elder Maxson outside the listening post’s entrance.

Method #2. Refuse to Execute Danse

Select the dialogue lines for your conversation with Danse in this order: Why didn’t you tell me?; A way out; Why did you run?; You’re human; Refuse to execute Danse; Losing a friend; I’ve got your back.

Once Danse hands over his Holotags, exit the listening post the same way you came to speak with Maxson outside and choose the dialogue lines that appear throughout the conversation in this sequence: Finding us; You’re wrong; Seriously?; Listen to me; Trust and respect.

After Maxson agrees to be merciful, speak with Danse again and decide whether you want him to stay or if you want him to accompany you on the adventures to come. This quest will end afterwards, regardless of what you ultimately choose.

Quest: Tactical Thinking

This quest will permanently put you on hostile terms with the Railroad and completing it removes the possibility of engaging in any mission that this faction currently offers or would have offered in the future.

Speak with Lancer Captain Kells to accept the mission and enter a suit of power armor before traveling to Old North Church, then enter the building to proceed forward through the hole in the opposite wall and equip a long-range weapon to zoom in on the rows of pews ahead.

Use the on-screen objective marker to locate Doctor Carrington around the rubble on the ground floor and eliminate him with some well-placed head shots to scratch out the first name on your hit list, then target the Railroad Agents firing down at you from the second floor landing until it is safe to cross the room and take cover behind the back row of pews to pick off approaching hostiles with the help of V.A.T.S.

Cross to the north side of the church with a close-range weapon to fight past any remaining Railroad Agents in the area and enter the corridor in the back left corner to encounter another wave of enemies inside the brick tunnel system, then use the surrounding corners and archways as cover points for eliminating threats that lay ahead at long or short distances.

Clear the tunnels to approach the indicated Detonation pack on the wall and activate it to breach a hallway that leads into a new area, then use a close-range weapon to eliminate the Railroad Agent waiting in the first corridor and look towards the next orange-lit corridor ahead to toss a grenade into it.

Stand within the first hallway to eliminate enemies approaching from the next one ahead by using a scoped-weapon or well-placed grenade throws and duck into the alcove on the right whenever you need a momentary reprieve, then equip a close-range weapon to defeat agents entering from the left and right side of the room that separates these two corridors.

Proceed through the opposite corridor to access Railroad HQ’s indicated entrance door and take cover within the archway that connects you to the open room ahead to encounter another group of agents, then look for the on-screen objective markers that move back and forth across the room to track the current locations of targets on your hit list.

Wait for these floating red icons to come to a stop behind one of the brick columns ahead and duck into cover to avoid the barrage of gunfire that will be unleashed in your direction, then quickly step out from your hiding spot to toss a grenade in the direction of the muzzle flare and drop back into safety before the explosive even touches the floor.

Use grenades and V.A.T.S. to eliminate Tinker Tom, Glory, Desdemona and Deacon, then finish clearing the catacombs of any remaining agents before approaching the objective marker that appears in an adjacent control room and decide how you wish to proceed in regards to the robot known as P.A.M.

Method #1: Destroy Pam

Use whatever weapons are at your disposal to completely destroy P.A.M. before exiting the church and report back to Lancer Captain Kells on the Brotherhood’s airship to complete this mission.

Method #2: Reprogram Pam

Approach the terminal sitting behind P.A.M. to load the Decryption Program holotape and press Start to finish successfully reprogramming your new robot companion, then report back to Lancer Captain Kells on the deck of the airship to complete this quest.

Quest: Spoils of War

This quest will permanently put you on hostile terms with the Institute and completing it removes the possibility of engaging in any mission that this faction currently offers or would have offered in the future.

After speaking with Proctor Ingram and boarding the indicated Vertibird, enjoy the automated flight that takes you to the top Mass Fusion tower and point the mini-gun towards the flat surfaces that make up the roof as the airship begins to move around this structure in a continuous circle.

Target the origin points of incoming blue laser beams to locate enemies currently firing upon the vertibird and use the mini-gun to mow them down quickly before moving on to the next threat, then create further destruction by unloading your weapon in the direction of any orange container that is visible on the rooftop below and ignite them to cause a massive explosion that can clear out multiple Synth at once.

Continue clearing the tower’s rooftop area by repeating the previous step until the Vertibird stops circling the building and moves in closes to start hovering above the newly-discovered Executive Suite, then jump out of the airship to land in the area directly below and take immediate cover to protect yourself from the nearest group of hostiles.

Head towards the east end of the rooftop to access the entrance to the nearby enclosure and use a close-range weapon to eliminate the Synth inside before climbing the staircase in the back left corner, then walk along the uncollapsed sections of the second floor landing to open the door on the opposite side of the room and approach the indicated Executive Research Lab Terminal to access it.

Open the first file on the list to receive the Beryllium Agitator’s location and exit the room to collect the Executive Keycard from the indicated desk on the landing to your left, then swipe the card while standing inside the cylindrical elevator on the floor below to descend into the bowels of the tower and equip a scoped-weapon to prepare for the next assault.

Zoom in with the scope to clear the Synth-occupied balconies that pass in front of you during elevator’s continued descent and push yourself against the left side wall to remain in whatever cover is possible until the car finally stops on the next floor below, then clear the immediate area with a close-range weapon before proceeding through the door on the left and approach the terminal to pick up the Labs Key beside it.

Use the Labs Key to unlock the door in the back left corner of the previous area and drop through the hole in the floor on the other side to reach the first landing below, then descend to the balcony beneath you to eliminate the Synth on the right at close-range and take cover inside the nearby office to defeat any additional enemies that come charging into the room.

Make a right out of the office to exit onto the Mass Fusion balcony and cross to the opposite side to re-enter the building through a different door, then descend the ramp against the south wall to access the next area below and use V.A.T.S. to help you fight your way down to the lowermost available floor where the current objective markers area located.

Approach the east corner of the lowermost floor to access an elevator that requires the ID card you picked up earlier and ride it down to the Reactor Level to descend the stairs on your right, then approach the large glass windows in the next room to enter the narrow chamber in the back left corner and press the button inside to decontaminate before proceeding through the door that opens ahead.

Ascend to the top of the metal ramp way to press the Interlock Release button and remove the Beryllium Agitator that is now available to set off the alarms, then turn towards the south wall with a scoped-weapon equipped to destroy the laser turrets located near the ceiling and exit back through the decontamination chamber to encounter a Sentry Bot in the previous room.

Use explosive ammunition and grenades in combination with critical hits scored via the use of V.A.T.S. to defeat the massive Sentry Bot and return to the elevator to reach the previous floor above, then open the first door on the left to clear the lobby of all remaining Synths before finally exiting the building and report back to Proctor Ingram at the Boston Airport to complete this quest.

Quest: Ad Victoriam

After speaking with Proctor Ingram, walk around behind the legs of the Liberty Prime robot to climb the stairway that leads to its head and approach the current objective marker to insert the Agitator into the Reactor Port.

Return to Ingram’s location to activate the power transfer switch that brings Liberty Prime to life and tail close behind the giant robot as it starts walking down the street to watch it decimate every hostile that gets in the way, then use the Aquaboy perk if possible to accompany Prime across the next body of water and continue following the mechanical monster upon reaching the opposite shore to witness further destruction of enemy forces.

Follow Liberty Prime until he comes to a stop near the CIT building that is lined with white pillars across its front entrance and equip a sniper rifle to prepare to defend the enormous bot while it scans the surrounding structures, then use the flatbed truck on the ground behind where Prime is currently standing as a means of cover and zoom in on the structure to the north to start picking off various enemies in hiding.

While Prime blasts the ground with a continuous red laser beam, continue sniping enemies that appear in the surrounding courtyard area to protect the giant robot until it finishes drilling into the Institute base located beneath the city and drop down through the hole that’s been created to complete this quest.

Quest: The Nuclear Option

After speaking with Elder Maxson and receiving the Fusion Charge pulse, proceed towards the current waypoint marker to reach the first room protected by laser turrets and use the terminal beside the second floor windows to deactivate them before clearing the rest of the Synths from the area below.

Proceed towards the objective marker by navigating the next series of corridors with a scoped rifle equipped and peek out around every available corner to eliminate threats that are waiting ahead from a safe distance, then aim through broken windows you encounter as well to pick off enemies positioned on the other side and continue forward in this manner to reach the room at the end.

Hack the Robotics Terminal you encounter next to unleash the Sentry Bot on the room ahead and aim a long-range weapon through the nearby window to eliminate it after the area has been cleared, then proceed towards the objective marker to snipe any remaining Synth and drop through the indicated hatch in the floor to follow the tunnel ahead.

Enter the laboratory to encounter a force of Synths and laser turrets on the surrounding walls above and use the planters stationed around you as cover until the room is clear, then pass through the yellow-striped doors to access the Institute and use an automatic weapon to eliminate the enemies that approach from the glass staircase ahead.

Finish clearing the area before stepping into the base of the helix at the center of the room and press the button inside to descend into the corridor below, then follow the waypoint marker to use another elevator and climb the next available staircase to reach the indicated room at the top.

Approach the old man laying in the bed to speak with him and activate activate a cut-scenes until the conversation is over, then approach the terminal on the nearby table to Override the Institute Lockdown and equip an automatic weapon before exiting via the spiral rampway outside the room.

Fight your way towards the current objective marker to access the Advanced Systems lab and eliminate a pair of laser turrets on the wall in the last corridor to locate the reactor on the other side, then descend to the reactor room’s entrance to snipe enemies through the window beside it and finish clearing the ground floor with the help of the Brotherhood.

Move slowly into the reactor room to zoom in on the enemies occupying the catwalks above and take them out by firing through the steel steps or railings they’re standing behind, then climb the stairs to pass through the glowing blue energy sphere and plant a Fusion Pulse Charge inside.

Approach Elder Maxson to teleport into the relay room and speak with a small boy named Shaun before starting a conversation with Proctor Ingram, then step back into the teleportation chamber to travel to the Mass Fusion Executive Suite and activate the detonator to complete this quest.

Quest: The Lost Patrol

To access this quest, you’ll need to complete the Show No Mercy mission.

After speaking with Paladin Danse or Lancer Captain Kells about the rescue mission, travel towards the objective marker the appears to pick up a Distress Signal and tune into it to access the on-screen Signal Strength percentile that appears in the upper left corner of your HUD.

Travel east to approach the Med-Tec Research building and turn south upon reaching this structure to increase the Signal Strength percentage with each forward step you take, then walk into the house with barely any walls remaining to discover the body of Knight Varham and listen to the Battlefield Holotape located on his person.

Make your way towards the National Guard Training Yard to pick up another Distress Signal and tune into it to view the Strength percentile, then proceed east to enter the National Guard Recruitment Office and explore the room in the back right corner of the ground floor to locate the body of Knight Astlin.

Listen to Knight Aston’s holotape before traveling to the Revere Satellite Array and look upwards to locate the wooden cabin hanging from the bottom of one of the enormous dishes, then climb the adjacent staircase to enter this flimsy structure and listen to the holotape that can be found on the body of Scribe Faris.

Travel to Recon Bunker Theta to access the terminal at its front entrance and use the code you just received to open the door, then enter the building to speak with Paladin Brandis and choose your next course of action carefully to determine how you want this mission to end. Once your conversation or confrontation has ended, report back to Danse or Kells to complete this quest.

  • 1. Kill Brandis to loot his bunker.
  • 2. Hand over his team’s holotags to end things peacefully and receive permission to loot the bunker.
  • 3. Ask Brandis to rejoin the Brotherhood and pass three conversation checks in a row to successfully persuade him.

Quest: Duty or Dishonor

To access this quest, you will first need to complete the Lost Patrol and Show No Mercy missions.

After speaking with Lancer Captain Kells and traveling to Boston Airport, speak with Knight Sergeant Gavil to question him about the Missing Supplies and follow it up with “Where to start?”, then ask about Lucia and Clarke to bring this conversation to a successful end.

Find Initiate Clarke to inform him of your Investigation before asking about the Security Situation and follow it up by inquiring if Nothing Gets In?, then mention Logistics to get the last piece of necessary information from this suspect and end the conversation so that you can move on to Lucia.

Approach Knight Lucia to have the same exact conversation with her as you did with Clarke and approach Gavil afterwards to speak with him again, then return to Clarke’s location to watch him from a safe distance until he turns his back on you and creep up from behind to pickpocket his personal key without being detected.

Return to the Prydwen airship to open Clarke’s footlocker and use the personal key you find inside to open Lucia’s locker as well, then collect Knight Lucia’s Log to obtain the evidence you need and give each day’s worth of notes a quick read-through before traveling back to the Boston Airport to Confront Lucia.

Tell Lucia you Read the Journal and follow it up with a question about The Battle to reach the end of this conversation, then use the on-screen green objective marker to approach Clarke at a safe distance and duck behind cover whenever you’re not in motion to remain undetected by him.

Follow Clarke to gain access to the Boston Airport Ruins and equip a scoped-weapon that’s effective at close range before searching the area to find a tunnel occupied by Ghouls who come charging straight towards you, then stand at the edge of the people movers to eliminate the enemies being funneled down these narrow pathways and use the ramps in the flooded section at the end to reach the parking garage above.

Travel north across the parking structure to eliminate emerging Ghouls with the help of V.A.T.S. and turn left at the far wall to start traveling downhill, then take cover behind cars located at the top of each new incline to eliminate approaching enemies from a safe distance before proceeding forward and use grenades to break up any groups that form.

Enter the blue-tile corridor at the end of the parking garage to access a subway platform and shoot the Ghouls standing by the opposite edge before you approach any further, then clear the area to proceed west down the flooded tunnel and enter the first available train car ahead to exit via the next open doorway on the left.

Open the door ahead to eliminate the Ghouls on the other side before returning to the train to clear the last car and exit out the back to proceed south towards the current objective marker, then use grenades to help eliminate the enemies patrolling the baggage claim area and head north afterwards to descend the stairs in the corner.

Follow the conveyor belt into the room at the end of the hall to confront Clarke and refrain from firing your weapon anywhere near him to avoid a hostile reaction, then start the conversation to choose between a variety of possible outcomes. Regardless of what’s decided, you will need to collect the Airport Employee ID Card from Clarke or from the table where an expert-level terminal also sits and report back to Lancer Captain Kells to complete this quest.

  • 1. After hearing Clarke’s story, he will ask you if he did the right thing. Respond in this order: Evasive; Nothing; Turn yourself in.
  • 2. Report Clarke’s actions to Kells.
  • 3. Kill Clarke and report his death to Kells afterwards.
  • 4. Lie to Kell by placing the blame on the Ghouls or by offering him a false explanation that avoids implicating Clarke. Stick to whichever story you choose until Kells is forced to believe you.

Quest: A Loose End

To access this quest, you’ll need to complete Duty or Dishonor and speak with Dr. Li at the beginning of the Liberty Reprimed mission.

After speaking with Lancer Captain Kells and agreeing to hunt down Virgil for him, travel to the Rocky Cave location to enter the laboratory hidden within the tunnel system and proceed towards the current objective marker to find your target working on something scientific.

By choosing to start a conversation with Virgil, as opposed to shooting him on sight, you will be given the chance to deal with him in one of two ways.

Method #1: Kill Virgil

If you choose to follow Kells’ orders or if Virgil attacks first without even giving you the chance to decide, kill the scientist in question with a single or series of well-placed head shots before exiting the cave.

Report back to Lancer Captain Kells to inform him of Virgil’s death and complete this quest.

Method #2: Lie About Killing Virgil

Choose these lines of dialogues in the order that follows to grant Virgil mercy: Should I?; They won’t know?; All right.

Exit the cave to report back to Kells and lie about Virgil being dead to complete this quest.
