Lionhead Unveils Fable 3

Lionhead Studios has revealed that its final revolutionary will be you, as you embark upon a journey that will lead you to the throne of Albion in Fable 3.

Che Guevara, Maximilien Robespierre, Abraham Lincoln, Aristotle, Emma Goldman, Joan of Arc: Images of these historical revolutionary figures recently appeared as a series of splash pages on the Lionhead website, along with a countdown of sorts indicating that something big would be revealed today. As promised, that “something big” has been unveiled, and it’s Fable 3.

In the third chapter of Lionhead’s hit RPG franchise, gamers will make their way through the world as a hero or a villain striving for the throne of Albion, a land divided by tyranny, poverty and injustice. Taking place five decades after the previous game, players will play as the child of the Fable 2 hero, “making choices and sacrifices that will test your morality and can affect your entire kingdom.”

“We’ve spent a lot of time at Lionhead thinking about how we can innovate the gameplay and progress the world of the Fable games for its third chapter, and we’re confident that players won’t second-guess what we have planned for Fable 3,” said Lionhead Creative Director Peter Molyneux. “Though I can’t give too much away right now, players should expect to have to make much tougher choices with far wider consequences than ever before in Albion – and with many more interactive adventure elements.”

Microsoft is marking the news of Fable 3 with the announcement that Fable 2 will soon be available on Xbox Live as Fable 2: Game Episodes. The episodic release will offer the full Fable 2 experience, including compatibility with the add-ons Knothole Island and See the Future, broken into five parts, with the first episode available free.

“With the Fable 2 episodic model, we’re encouraging people to experience the first chapter of the game for free, then move onto other chapters when they are ready,” said Microsoft Game Studios General Manager Phil Spencer. “It’s a unique model and one that will appeal to gamers who’ve been hesitant to dive full into the original retail release.”

Fable 2: Game Episodes will debut on Sept. 29, while Fable 3 is scheduled for a holiday 2010 release, exclusively for the Xbox 360.
